Fishwrecked goes Online Shopping

Hey fellow fishwreckers,

I'm proud to announce that today fishwrecked.com has enabled its online shopping section.  For fishwrecked merchandise purchases you can now go through the shop and order at your leisure, all you need is a paypal account to purchase and your away.  At the moment theres only the standard fishwrecked gear, but we will be adding new gear in the coming weeks.  We are still working on a few things and will hopefully have it running smoothly soon.  If you don't want to buy through paypal, then we can still organise it the old way via Australia Post money order, cheque or direct deposit, just let me know.

Feel free to check it out, still a little naked at the moment but will be firing up soon and you will see links to it starting to appear on the site as we refine it.  Happy days!

We have also put the site back into its original format with recent comments being displayed and also put in a new login device which requires you to enter the number code if you are a new user, to reduce the chance of spammers getting through.  Happy browsing, now I'm off to get boozed up for my birthday, if you notice anything amiss, please send me a PM. Laughing

Cheers,

Adam

What's the agenda??

Fri, 2008-10-17 21:09

Adam.

I am pretty new here and really enjoy the banter etc. I also did a bit with the other guys to raise funds for transition etc. All this merchandising and possible real estate territory for potential sponsors. Where is Fishwrecked headed? What is it out to achieve other than giving me a great place to come and see what others are up to?

Cheers, Vince

Paypal?

Fri, 2008-10-17 23:48

Paypal - expensive, awkward and not a lot of people can use it - whats wrong with EFT or credit card. E-bay usres run a mile from Paypay

Credit card takes a merchant

Sat, 2008-10-18 07:04

Credit card takes a merchant agreement, its not like Adam is going to get a terminal for a few stickers? Direct deposit isn't so hard though, perhaps the web guy can look at that as well.

Stuff about PayPal.

Sat, 2008-10-18 10:47

@paul: You can use your credit card through PayPal even if you don't have a PayPal account. Just click the Credit Card button on the screen where it asks you to enter your PayPal details. Also PayPal makes no difference in the price to the customer, they take a 2-3% as processing fee from the merchant. Personally I prefer PayPal over giving my CC to a website in a lot of cases. I would rather trust one organisation (PayPal) with my banking information, than having it stored in many different website databases where I am unsure of the security standards employed. Each to their own, of course. I realise there are a lot of people out there who dislike Paypal.

@till: Yeah merchant accounts are really hard to get a hold of. Unless you have large turnover the banks just don't want to talk to you. Fishwrecked just isn't there yet. If we were able to get one we would be killed in monthly fees so its not really an option right now. Ads will still help with direct deposits if you PM him, and we will take a look at integrating that (direct deposit) and money orders into the shop somehow.

If anyone does have information on how to get a merchant bank account quick and easy I would love to hear it. I think St George Bank  has a good one.

Personally I just do manual

Sat, 2008-10-18 15:26

Personally I just do manual transactions and put them through my terminal by hand.

St George have their own system, but they recommend e-way. Just between you and they will match ANY price you get from anywhere and there are plugins available from the eway website for any cart written in the last 3yrs, even drupal :P

If I had to recommend one, it would be that one!

Be Wary

Sat, 2008-10-18 17:18

Just a heads up. Great idea to sell some merchandise but I would like to share a not so pleasant experience with other readers regarding Paypal.

When I was checking my emails earlier this week I got multiple emails from Paypal thanking me for transferring money.
As I was deleting them I suddenly realised that they were not the usual spam that we all get from time to time.

I then proceeded to log into my account and to my horror I discovered 4 transactions totalling almost $3000 that had been made.

It was not sure whether I wanted to crap my self or spew. I immedietly cancelled my credit card the contacted Paypal who had already suspended my account because they thought some fraud had occurred.

I have been told that my money will be returned to me within 5-7 days. It will be an anxious wait.

I do not wish to put anyone off Paypal but keep in mind that it can happen to anyone. I am very wary of scams and run regular Anti virus/ anti spyware scans etc. but I still have no idea how my account was compromised.

I suggest to change your password regularly as a precaution as well.

Cheers.

Hi Vince

Tue, 2008-10-28 14:47

Sorry, fully forgot about this thread.

Fishwrecked certainly won't be going into online shopping in terms of tackle as theres enough guys out there doing that and its definately not in my interests in the near future. Fishwrecked's never really been about making money for me. (mind you I'd be silly not to make a little bit for the time I put in) It really has been a labour of love for the last 3.5 years and my main aim is to keep expanding the site to those that haven't seen it. Just to get it out there for more people to enjoy the online fishing stories/video and the interactivity of speaking to other fisho's.

The amount of mates I've made out of this site I could never have imagined 3 years ago and am always keen to meet more like minded people that enjoy there fishing. With the continued growth of fishwrecked there is now a good chance for me to start helping out people to understand the rules, new legislation and things happening within our fishery. Whilst there are plenty of firey discussions that often take place, its good to see people passionate about their hobby/sport and ultimately it will benefit us all with increased involvement in the issues that face us. Anyway, could go on with that for ages.

Ultimately the store is to make life a little easier for me. (with paypal and a few less private messages) The store is also great because it acts as an active tax invoice for me and I don't need to keep seperate data, keeps stock levels and is a much more streamlined way to sell fishwrecked product. I make very little margins on these products (just to cover my time/effort), they are purely for promotion of the site. I will be looking at a few new ideas soon, spare wheel covers, stubby holders, long sleeve shirts and camo shorts.

The whole idea of the merchandise is to help with the site's exposure and be able to brag in your FW gear. (Mind you the gear does bring you luck!!) As for where the site is going, I have no idea, I like it as is at the moment, just adding a few extra bits and pieces that could make good Chrissie presents. :)

Also, if anyone has probs with paypal/credit card etc, can still do the old school methods we've been doing all along - cheque, post money order, internet banking etc.  Just send me a PM (private message) or email to

Cheers,
Adam
