New Forum - Kayaking Discussion

Hi Guys n Gals,

Based upon an idea from Mr Mangles I have decided to start up a new forum section called; Kayaking Discussion.  If you have any questions about yaks, what to buy, range, whats better, how to fish from them or anything you want to know about this type of fishing, then ask away and hopefully we can get some interesting and informative discussion going about them. :)

Cheers,

Adam

sea-kayak

Tue, 2008-10-28 13:21

done the majority of my fishing out of a sea-kayak in Alaska. But this style of kayaking was/is more suited to expedition kayaking with the fish supplementing our food rations.

regardless was amazing experience and can highly recommend sea-kayaking. we would head out for weeks on end and just explore the coast.

still caught plenty of salmon.

The fish you are able to

The fish you are able to catch from a Kayak and the places that you are able to go with them at an affordable price. Sounds good to me, just wondering if you can jig from one of these things? jigging standing up is the norm but doaing it sitting down is gonna be trickey.

May be we should start a new trend and get into Yak Jigging.Smile

That's another interesting tought. can you get sea sick in a kayak?

Any one care to comment on this?

Just out of curiosity how much is it to get a reasonable kayak kitted out ready to go fishing?

Well it depends on what

Well it depends on what bling you want, a decent Hobie starts just under $2500 but you can spend thousands more getting it decked out depending on what features you want.

sea sickness

I've only used sea-kayaks but have been out in real ruff weather.

never experienced sea-sickness, but hypothermia and exposure are real threats.

lack of sea-sickness may be to due with lower centre of gravity, sitting a couple of inches off the water and not being throw around like a boat, less to confuse the eardrums. least in a sea-kayak the water just rolls over you and none gets in cause you are wearing a watertight jacket (over the cockpit).

they are very stable once you gain confidence, and very easy to climb back into if you ever roll one.  having a rudder works wonders

I guess you could get sea sick

I have heard of people who have been in the water for a very long time getting seasick.
