Fishwrecked welcomes bidhere.com.au
Hi Guys,
A couple of weeks ago I mentioned that was going to be a new non-fishing related web sponsor. Well I'd like to welcome our new advertiser: bidhere.com.au
I've been watching the site for a couple of weeks now to check it out and theres some seriously good deals going down. Have a look for yourself and check it out. All the terms and conditions of the site are there and what you need to do to bid, its pretty easy really.
The guys will be on the site saying g'day and putting up forum posts every so often to show you some of the bargains you can pick up. If you don't like the site, then you don't have to click through to it. But as I said, I've been keeping an eye on it and it looks like some genuine deals.
Cheers,
Adam

Great stuff
Pity they don't have fishing gear on there, well at least I don't think they do/will. Wouldn't mind getting hold of a Stella for $3:50 lol

Beauty about to buy new freezer
The old bait fridge died a couple of weeks ago the day before I went to Port Denison, leaked stinky bait juice all over the garage floor, so Mrs said go buy a chest freezer, on the look out for a 320l jobbie, will check out the new sponsor.

Any fishing gear is better than none, I would think the usual reels, rods, line. High end gear would be better obviously.

Hello Fishwrecked Crew Members,
Didn’t know there were so many fishing enthusiasts at this hour of the night!:)
Let me introduce myself to you, if I may?
This is Rick, I am the CEO of BidHere ™.
We are a new auction site with just a little bit of twist. We aim to bring Brand New Products under the hammer every hour, only to sell it for a fraction of it’s retail price. Yep, that’s right!!
It is very easy to participate, fun to follow, and of course very rewarding.
We all love bargains, don’t we?
Now, here’s how it works:
Each bid costs only $0.75, so you don’t actually pay a lot at the end when you win a product. So, there is a possibility of winning an iMac for $0.02.
Some of our recently ended auctions include Sony VAIO Laptop for $28 (RRP is $2699), Nikon D90 camera for $19.98 (RRP is $2297) and a Sony Bravia 46” LCD HD television for $18.70 (RRP is $3,000).
Of course we want all of you to take part, the only way I can think of is auctioning some fishing gear!
So come on crew, sign up on www.bidhere.com.au and make some suggestions!
Your participation is deeply appreciated.

Rick - You Are a Genius!
This is the best bloody business idea I have seen in a while. If people get their 5 bids, and get sucked in they pay for bids at $0.75. If an auction with 2c incriments sells for 50$ and people pay for all 2500 bids, you make $1875+the 50$ auction money. For some items you might only pay $500-$1000 for this is a licence to print money

i've been having a bit of a punt. To really be in with a chance you have to purchase large amounts of bids, Then set your monkey to bid for you. Site support through the live chat function is fantastic and response time is extremely quick. It is addictive especially when you get oh so close to winning that TV only to be out bid! Would be good to see some high end fishing gear on there.

Nothings free
but this is no different to the 1900 competition lines all the TV and radio stations use (even Aunty ABC) - they "give away" something like a trip to London worth 10 or 12 grand and collect $27500 from the 50,000 listeners who pay their 55 cents a call. Sure, they are making money - it's a business isn't it? Beats pouring money into pokies.

Nothing is free, but, as with sarcasmo, if you pay $7.50 to get something worth $110, can't be too bad. You just have to be smart about it, I think I've figured my strategy. :)

What's the go with items ending, then checking, and starting the timer again?

Checking means that more than one person bid in the last 10 sec
Basically the auction works in 2c incriments, when started they have a time limit say 6 hrs, people can bid in this time, but when 6 hrs goes, the timer changes to 2 mins. If you are the only bidder and the time runs out, its yours. If someone is bidding against you, they generally bid in the last 10sec's. Then the timer clicks over to 2mins again UNTIL Somone is the only bidder in 2 mins.

Ody: props on the missus's point, shes had me bidding on that f**king pair of hair straighteners all day. If I win, I reckon surely thats like 7 fishing trip "get out of jail" cards and a carton.
Also if you do win the auction and take the goods and do testimonials, you get free bids, with more for either photo or video.
Anyway im over it pretty much after today by being sniped by all the first timers.

yep, its sure getting a flogging. I bid for a while in hope to win and surprise Wade (coz he's pessimistic about these sites) but the bids were coming thick and fast! I noticed about 5 fishwrecked members bidding at the same time.
When I last looked it was over $16, so doing the calculations at 0.75c per 2c bid, with 50 bids in the dollar thats around $600. the site is not too far off recouping its outlay (take in mind the rrp is shown, not wholesale).

pay-per-bid sites
I dont believe in over-regulation but would advise people to do a bit of "google" research and do the numbers for yourself and know what they're getting into........and keep the phone number for Gambler's Anonymous handy.
As someone once said, they dont build billion dollar casino's by "the house" losing money - and that money's gotta come from somewhere.

Fishing related sponsors keep it real, this is an exceptional site to learn, help and share fishing related experiences. Its a shame to get sidetracked with on line gambling, I for one would be happy to pay a member fee which combined with other members could go a long way to help with annual site costs and keep the integrity of the site.

I resent any implication that I may be average in any way, shape or *cough* form, certainly nothing past or present partners have felt the need to comment on.
Its no more gambling than ebay and no one is there forcing you to press the button.

to be honest ozz
To be honest Ozz, Till is right to some degree. For 4 years I've run this site without trying to make a dollar from it. (only to cover my site costs) Now, I spend about 16 out of my 24 hours a day dealing with tackle store issues, other sponsor issues, people's grievances about someone else, some useless f***rs hating me for getting rid of them for being useless f***ers and then outliers for some other reason wanting to hate me for running a popular fishing site or some other politics that I don't even know about.
This was an opportunity for me to make some money to cover my costs (new shirts/designs/server) we all know it is a gambling site and I do think that once the initial buzz wears off, fishwrecked will be the site it has always been. (trust me on that because I will ensure thats the way it remains)
I think most people will see the site for what it is, an opportunity at a cost, if you don't like it, then you don't have to visit it. All I am doing is making people aware of it by it being advertised here, just the same as I do with any advertiser/sponsor. If you don't like the tackle shack or oceanside, then you don't have to visit them either. The ball is totally in your court, if you want to see fishing, then don't click the banner ads, stay on FW and its all here.
If you do really have a problem with it, please PM me and let me know. If theres overwhelming support that it is a problem, then I will look into avenues to resolve it. I guess the thing is, if you don't like them, you don't have to click to go over there, the decision is in your hands.
Cheers,
Adam

I take no responsibility for site sponsors/advertisers actions, all I do is control the amount of advertising they can do, its purely up to the individual on their browsing habits. Its displayed there and if you don't like it, please don't click it.
If you like having a go and think you can get a bargain, then do so at your own risk.

I wish mate, I got my 5 free bids and bought another 25. I'm still keen to try out my theory but I think MJ and saltydog said it right, you need to do it properly if you are going to do it, rather than think you can spend a really small amount and get lucky.
I think it definately pays to only spend money in the higher range of the bidding. Ie, work out the cost of the good, how much money it takes to reach that via bidding, then start getting serious from there.

Pretty average the way Ozzy got shot down
He was only voicing his opinion, and he wasnt being rude about it but got shot down pretty harshly - pretty poor form guys.
As for the site, i gave it a go, dont think much of it. doubt ill buy any more credits for it, but i might :P longterm nightshift does funny things to a guy haha!
IMO it doesnt belong on this site, but obviously its not my decision to make, time will tell how many more sponsors of this nature appear on here itll be interesting to see what members decide to leave or stay because of it.
I guess as long as all you have to see is the banner and theyre not constantly flogging shit on the forum iteslf then it isnt any skin off my nose.
Also to add - As for Adam feeling the need to justify making a profit from the site etc, there is no need, Id expect nothing less than the creator to try and make a few $$$ from it, more the merrier :P. theres no need to justify that to anyone.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think Adam is talking about making a profit Kane, he is just trying to cover costs the way I read it. I'm pretty sure the advertising doesn't cover any of the hours Adam puts in - he works for free, so we can all enjoy Fishwrecked.

Thanks Tone.
No worries Kane, like I've said, its never been about the money, but now that its costing me more than ever... well... Some of you may have noticed that theres been server drop outs lately, means that another new server is required because the valueline professional package I was on only gave 1 gig of ram. Last year I thought we would be joking if we used all that, guess the joke was on me. Calculate the costs of another server, then another 2 gig of ram on that ($20 US a month) plus a techie at $50 per hour to do it and you get the predicament I'm in. I'm just trying to hold off doing it at the moment because to move the server is going to mean that it will be off for about 2 days. [the porn sites might like that though ;)]
The guys do have the right to post forum threads occasionally letting you know whats going on, but, as you do with the for sale threads you don't want to look at, just don't open them.
Again, its purely up to you guys, if you want to click, then click, if you don't like it, don't bother.
To let you know, there are several other advertisers likely to come on board soon, but they will be fishing/boating related. I consider this a one off, but if the money pays for the site improvements and its not coming out of my back pocket, then I'd be silly to ignore it.
Also, no need to fight guys - Till / Ozzy, we are all friends here. If its going to come to that I will lock this thread down. As you have said, a friendly family fishing website and that is what it will remain.
Cheers,
Adam

Settle Pettle LOL
You started this by starting the site Adam. Nobody will ever give you any shit for that mate! Don't let things get to you, just keep doing what you are doing but with the thought in mind that any advertising should not be "in your face" so to speak and yes; fishing related would be good for the image but not mandatory unless feedback is negative.
I for one am not in favour of membership/subscription fees as that alone brings on a whole heap of issues and a somewhat "closes the group".So that means.... get sponsors.... or in this case, promote advertising.
As for some of the banter above I again suggest, settle pettles... and if you are a sponsor or work for a sponsor.. sit back and restrain yourself. This is an open forum and a very healthy one.

I reckon bid-here is a bit of fun. No different to going to the TAB for a flutter or down the cass for a go on the pokies. I'd rather keep the site free and have sponsors like bid here, than have to pay a membership fee.
