fitting an hours meter to carby 4 stroke motor?

Hi everyone,
not too sure on wether or not this is possible?
just recently purchased a 3 year old quintrex with a 40hp four stoke on the back (Honda BF40). It doesn't currently have an hours meter fitted but i was wondering if it is at all possible?
I know they fit hours meters to pretty much all of the new EFI motors but not sure if you can fit one to a carby (3 carbies) engine?
anyone else done this or know if it can be done?
any guage recommendations?

All you need for an hour meter is a power source when the ignition is on or motor is running.
Does anyone know where the love of god goes, when the waves turn the minutes to hours?

The difference.
Two types of hour meters, one that registers when the motor is actually going (EFI), and the other that registers when you have the ignition switch on, but the hours tick over even if the motor is not going (fits to EFI or carbie).

Try the Go Kart shops around. Im pretty sure they work by cable tying them to the spark plug lead.

why
most useless guage on a boat why would you want one unless your a commercial operator just get your motor serviced every 12 months and you wont have a thing to worry about

If I serviced my motor on a yearly basis and not on running hours, my service intervals would be between 250 - 300 hrs.
Not that useless really, is it.....

you are a very minor exception there are not a lot of people out there that put that many hours on there motor you might not realize but there are some very dumb people out there that only get there motor serviced when there hours come up 5-6 yrs down the track and by then there motor is slightly stuffed all from reading that useless little gauge

I want to fit one just to keep an eye on how many hours per year I am racking up that's all. I will definately get it serviced anually anyway but if 100 hours comes up first prior to the 12 month interval then get it serviced at 100hrs.
Being from a trade background I know how imperative regular servicing is so that is why I asked.

that way its only on when the engine is running

Run off the key
Scano , you just wire it up to the ignition key as suggested .

hour meter
just buy an analogue hour meter like http://bla.com.au/index.php?fn=productView&id=1645&eId=10&sId=65e6ef32922ecd74b927ebfc9b294935 mount the gauge in the dash and find 12v key power in the gauge wiring harness and connect up. pretty simple job.
