a bit late for the season,
a bit late for the season, at this time of the year i'd be looking lower reaches although they can be found as far up as canning bridge ATM.
For flatties you should go lures, and i've had success on TT switchblades and SX40's. They'll hit anything really just something around 4-6 cm should do the business if your going HB.
Your better off waiting until september and trying the flats around canning bridge with a switchblade, you can't go wrong with a lift and drop technique.
Gutters would be good to look for, but sand bottom with a bit of weed is fine. Once you get a couple they really aren't that hard to catch

Thanks for the info, with the bream going off the bight a bit I thought I may try flatties but it doesn't sound too good atm..what other fish could I target?

Same with most species,
Same with most species, there will always be some bigger ones hanging back.
Bream is another prime example, but i don't usually spend much time upstream in winter, more fish further downstream and you still have the chance of a bigger one.
Gold's and oranges are the most reliable colours in the swan IMO for flatties

Nah we were the 2 guys just further up from him at the very end.
Flatty was a highlight after getting my brand new rod dragged into the water and getting spooled by a boat.
