Flip Video Cam

http://www.theflip.com/products_flip_ultra.shtml

Just ordered one of the ultra models with the matching underwater housing from the US. Be here in a couple of weeks.

Looks perfect for some shallow water snorkelling/spearfishing work. Obviously wont be as good as a dedicated setup but for $253 AU delivered it should do the job quite nicely.

60 minute recording time, runs on two AA batteries, built in editing software.

I'll review it on here once it arrives and I've had a chance to play with it.

John

Nice mounting accessories BJ, I can see you getting "spear Gun" cam, which is always great footage, and also "rod or reel cam" for that extra special footage of line burning action.

From what I've seen of them through a heap of web surfing they should be the ducks nuts guys.

Keen to get some footage from behind the speargun and wrestling crays.

Also wouldn't be to hard to rig it up from the rocket launcher looking backwards onto the deck area.

Test

Thu, 2008-08-28 20:40

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T-gdhX9AD7Q

Took the camera for a test on the weekend.

Worked great underwater till I noticed a few drops of water inside the housing. No harm done thankfully, and I'm hoping it was just because of some dirt on the seal. I'll do another tissue test before I try it again.

The footage above was shot from inside the boat while the kids were swimming. Turned out ok. I'll try and get some fishing footage soon.

Camera

Sat, 2009-01-17 14:56

Camera is great, but I'm having some issues with water getting into the underwater housing.
I did a test with tissue paper and it was fine but with the camera being such a snug fit, water seems to be getting in somehow when it is in the housing. Its very annoying because it takes great UW footage.
Does anyone have any tips for increasing the effectiveness of the seals? I was thinking vaseline but that might be a bit messy.

Don't use vas, it rots most

Don't use vas, it rots most seals, use silicon lube.
