Hi Ya,

Have to agree.  Spent a week in Kalbarri between 21 & 26 October.  Enough flies to carry you away.  Fly/mozzie net was the best $8 brother & I spent the whole week.  Perrrrrfect.

Cheers.

Gazzillion Flies

Sun, 2007-11-04 20:37

All over the boat from about 11-00am to about 3-00pm then disapeared.

We had swarms of the black and yellow ones our about 10nm west of Mindarie today.

Pain in the backside, swatting them all day.

Cheers

You aint seen nothin'

Mon, 2007-11-05 08:22

G'day guys

As Adam said " hard the ***k up. Went for a walk along the cliffs on Friday ( or was that flyday). Super low tides and low swell with howling easterly. I have never seen so many flies. Ablsolutely ridiculous. Up around Goat Gulch not only flies but grass hoppers. Had to make sure you mouth was closed. Makes it entertaining when you're breathing that hard through your nose and one of the buggers ends up up there. Certainly put better things up my nose.

Cheers Mike

House flies

Mon, 2007-11-05 09:23

Ryan,

Did you notice a change in fly species the further west you went out?

Tim and I had the yellow and black ones for most of the time then at about 13nm they changed to the little house flies. Maybe the smaller ones get blown further offshore than the bigger black and yellow ones.

We should have taken a pic of them, you couldn't see the handle of Tims 975 Penn as it was absolutely covered in them.

Cheers

Mon, 2007-11-05 09:35

Yep, same here Andy. The easterly really loaded up the water with flies and on  the flip side i had only 2 mutton birds around me at the end of the day. Me thinks with all the boats out yesterday they were well spread out!

Only One Mutton Bird

Mon, 2007-11-05 09:56

We only saw one just as we were packing up to head home. Maybe they were all resting after a feed full of flies.

Hover flies

Mon, 2007-11-05 14:53

Yep that's them, though they weren't doing much hovering out on the ocean. They just latched onto the boat and us and just sat there, obviouly tired from all the hovering they had been doing out at sea.

Just spent

Mon, 2007-11-05 19:26

Just spent the weekend at rotto and came back this afternoon. The flies were horrific over there! Litterally covered our selves in RID and airogaurd roll on stuff, made no difference what so ever. The general store also must have made a killing on the fly nets you wear on your head as at least 25% of the people over there were wearing them and the general store sold out!
