Thought I'd get this going since the MIGHTY EAGLES handed out a thrashing today. Welcome back to the house of pain fellow punters. Their intensity was good but reckon they need to gel a bit better to get the flowing footy happening. I thought they farted around with it at times but signs are all good. A few to come back from injury should give us some depth. Loved the tackling at hard at the footy paid dividends today. Keep it up boys!

I don't like football , so i normaly don't read the threads but i find the banter quite funny sometimes. Pretty easy just to not open a thread titled " Footy 2014" if your not interested.

Yep, lucky to get the 4 points, undergunned but knew the Bombers were going to be tough. Enjoyed the first half then the Dons killed us in the 3rd. Credit due tho, still found a way to fight back and snatch the game, woke the house up (had to watch taped game later on) when Hilly handballed to the loose Cyril and he slotted it through woohoo, though we were gone for sure. Be good to get a few players back next week for an easier game
Bombers will be tough this year under Thompson, Bomber fans gota be lovin Chappy, hes thrivin there so far, has had a big impact

Any team who spends 10 million on an aging player heavily weighted at the back end of the contract is asking for trouble...
On the other hand I think collingwood traded much smarter than tonight's opponent and will benefit much sooner. I did rate sydney. I think they have made some big mistakes. Mumford starring for GWS, buddy struggling, talks of rifts between players... losing my respect and their results reflect it.

Very error riddled Collingwood performance tonight but happy to get over the line, all the same.
Frosty (4th game) was very good on Buddy. He regularly torched us when he played for the Hawks.

And sydney dont have any points, neither do carlton... teams that finish top four lose 4-5 games a year... anything more is generally bottom half of the top eight and history shows only one team has won a premiership from there. Sydney has to win basically every game from here on in to consolidate a top two or top four position. So far they have lost to last year's wooden spooners (???) and a team snashed by 70 points last round.
No, I dont rate them, at the moment.

As much as I love our side handing out a shlacking like that I think it's a complete joke and cheapens the elite comp. If sides can't put in a competetive effort then they should be relegated or cut out of the comp some how. That'not footy it's a training run but since all sides will get a crack at them I'll take the 4 points and the percentage.

Same here, I enjoyed the first quarter or so, but then watched NHRA qualifying as it's hard to watch the footy when the difference between some of the sides is so large, it can get a little boring, especially for the players.
Randell mentioned that only one team has won the GF from outside the top 4, (Adelaide in the '90's I think) but I think that record will be broken repeatedly over the coming seasons with the quality of the entire 8, let alone the teams that miss out.
We are going better and looking good, but it's early on and proof will be once we have played Freo, Geelong, hawks, Port, Essendon etc. Hopefully we improve on last year......by about 14 positions would be nice!

I love a win like everyone else, but a slaughter is a shame for the game.
I dont know what melbourne is going to do. Simply you cant treat on "established" team differently to the rest, or everyone else will cry unfair etc.
And Daisy I am certain we will do better than last year. Predicted 4th, but looking forward to Rd 7. If and I mean if we get over Freo anything might be possible, as I believe they are the yard stick at the moment.

at all, but its a shame for the game when one team (or more) are easy beats. GCS are improving as you would have expected, and I suspect they will be up there. GWS also after the Sydney win wont be underestimated. It will almost become with melbourne that you can notch that 4 points up. I hope not.

When you draft athletes, not footballers, this is what happens. Melbournes 'elite' couldn't even hit a target with hand or foot for the majority of the game. I used to feel for Tattoo Jones,p as he plays with heart, but he was as guilty of basic skill errors as the rest of the useless first round draft picks. At least Dawes will be back soon! Ha!
It's a shame we can't relegate the bottom teams somehow.
On another note though, I reckon lower tiered top 8 sides will start winning the cup in the next few years with the amount of quality sides up there. Subtle changes like the interchange cap will not allow the amount of rest periods experienced in the past. Rest times need to be coached out with the players still on the fielding accountable which makes a huge difference to recovery times, thus game structure.

Compare fyfe to carey? There is no comparison. Fyfe has integrity, carey hasnt. Fyfe isn't a criminal nor a drug addict. And the only time I saw carey play, jacko pantsed him, so I question his talent as well. If fyfe gets rubbed out for that its a disgrace. If they have changed the rules to outlaw that situation the game has become netball. Feet on the ground and elbow tucked in. Initial contact was all body on body.

however Jacko most definently had the best of him for the best part. You can't rate someone though, based on one opponent. He dominated all others.

What astounds me is that an umpire must be watching because the play is in the process of kicking. No free kick, no report. ???? None of commentators say "fyfe will be in trouble for that!" So everyone thinks its fair... play on....
And yes I am cranky with it. Before you all have a go, consider if it was a pendlebury, or a selwood, or an ablett, or a dangerfield, what would you be feeling if it was one of your best players?

I do agree that Fyfe is unlucky

Hey how old is pendlebury? Fyfe is 23. Still has lots of opportunity to do as much and more than pendlebury.
I acknowledged that pendlebury is very skilled. And I am probably as guilty as the entire east coast media when they try to pass comment about wa players in that I dont see enough of him. He just seems to me to hang outside and let others do the hard grind. I know he's effective, he cops crowleys tag ... and thats a compliment. ;)

Yep almost as embarrassing as your entire teams performance in round one. Fyfe beat you in three quarters and knocked off early. Collingwood were the joke that night. Just as they were with their early exit from the 2013 finals. Thats funny stuff. I kid getting syspended for playing fair, hard football isn't. I've got no issue with suspensions when they're justified (dawson's is justified). But Fyfe's is a joke.
