Freo/Rotto info please!

one extreme to the other-back from Abrolhos yesterday and looking to pull the boat down to Perth in a couple a days to do Rotto and river etc in a couple of days and chasing some info/help!

We can berth at Freo Sailing Club for a few days but they have no room for trailer parking, only car. Any ideas or has anyone got space to park an empty trailer for about 5 days near to Freo?

Or are any of the boat ramp car parks reasonable and safe to leave a trailer or car and trailer?

Launch ramps nearby to Freo Sailing Club and cost etc?

Rottnest-been looking on the website but its a little confusing-too much info, only been there for a couple of hours at the pub.

Can we back up and beach moor there at say Longreach or will it be too crowded and a hassle? Or any other suggestions with toilets etc nearby?

thanks in advance guys!

Thanks scuba, unless something has changed at fremantle boat storage, they dont store boats on trailers. Last year when my boat came in i contacted them to store fot a couple of weeks and thats what they said.

I have parking organised at either nedlands or rockingham but was hoping for something closer to freo.

Ill be heading down in a couple of days and will pm you for some more info on rotto.

cheers mate!

 There are a couple of

There are a couple of options for leaving a car and trailer around Freo. At the end of Capo D'Orlando Dve (which is the next set of lights up from Freo sailing club) is a service wharf for the fishing boat harbour. There is plenty of parking in there and you could leave your car and trailer there - I think it would be pretty safe and its free.  Marine Tce between the sailing club and Capo D'Orlando has street side parking which is free, and depending on the time of day there is often plenty of parks available. The carpark at South Fremantle high school might be another good option, but not sure how safe it would be. Failing that, there is plenty of street parking out the front of my place in east Freo, which is about a 5-10 minute drive from the sailing club.

Boat launching areas are Woodies and Leeuwin. Woodies is not safe to leave a car, and Leeuwin is quite expensive.

You need to pay a landing fee to visit Rotto, even if you only anchor in a bay.  You can pay in the building at the end of the main wharf in Thompsons Bay, or pay online at this website:

longreach bay won't be that crowded, you can back in and beach moor there, or any of the other bays. I am not sure about toilets at any of the other bays. Parakeet bay is really nice to stop in, but no toilets there.

Thanks Fuzzy, much

Thanks Fuzzy, much appreciated.

Yeah was thinking of the service jetty as we parked there alot when I was longlining.

I also have a place to leave car and trailer at Nedlands, what are the ramps like around there?

Also are the places between Freo/Perth you can pull up at night to sleep without anyone getting upset and leave first thing?

Easy enough in the Fishing Boat Harbour but what about up the river?

I'm not sure about ramps in

Wed, 2014-01-01 16:36

I'm not sure about ramps in the Nedlands area, but somebody else can probably offer advice on that.

Stopping overnight in the river won't be a problem, plenty of places to park. Your best bet is probably one of the free public moorings, which are red in colour. There are a bunch of them spread along the river, 1 out the front of the Leftbank, 3 at the Pt Walter end of Blackwall Reach, 3 near the Swan Canoe Club, 2 just north of Mosmans restaurant, 2 or 3 near the Raffles, a couple by the uni, a couple near Barrack St wharf and so on. They are a max 4 hr stay, but if you don't pull up to them until 5 or 6pm, nobody will come and move you along at 10pm. The yellow moorings are private and if you tie up to them the owners can claim you damaged them and send you a bill - not recommended.

If you wanted to stay at a beach so you had access to a toilet I don't think that would be a problem either, as long as you didn't set up tents and so on. If you beach moored the boat at about 5-6pm and acted like you were stopping for a picnic dinner nobody would say anything.

Matilda Bay has a good ramp. Between Royal Perth Yacht Club and Matilda Bay Restaurant.
