Jurien cray pot reminder
Hey guys just a friendly reminder I have been fishing around the Midwest for most of the Xmas break at a couple of different spots. A couple of days ago I was putting my boat back on the trailor at jurien and fisheries checked me. I had just pulled my pots out of the water and didn't have any devices fitted to stop the baby seals getting into the pots and trapped. I must admit I had read this previously but completely forgotten as it was my first trip with the boat to jurien and I haven't potted a great deal so hadnt given it a second thought, fortunately the fisheries guy just gave me a friendly warning as the pots were out of the water.
so I will be getting a couple of bits of flat bar to mount on them this week and just leave them on all the time, this would have been handy up there as I kept catching bloody wobbygongs in the pots and they anti seal device would probably block them too.

hey rig instead of doing that and leaving it on the whole time just weld a nut at the base of the pot in the centre and then all you need to do is screw a metal rod onto it when you are potting in those zones where sleds are reqd. pretty easy to do. we did them with our pots when we would fish the whites down there. then when you are potting somewhere else you can take the rod off them.

yeah I have seen that option tangles, I am using plastic pots so its possibly a bit easier for me to put something across the top. The fisheries guy said it doesnt change catch rates so I could leave it on for a bit more added weight, what do you guys think?

not good at all for added weight, anything at the top of the pot with weight will make it less stable on the bottom (rolling in swell) and more likely to land upside down, just liking putting heavy stuff on the bimini of your boat!
The other suggestions above (batten or rod) are far better options.

We have tried both, bolts and battons across neck, no noticable difference, sometimes you`ll pull a shit pot and blame the batton then couple pots later you`ll pull a good one.
