Fuel shortage

Went to Bunnings in Cairns and bought every one of their jerry cans, loaded them into a maxi taxi and on the way back to the boat I bought 2 x 44's as well. I aint running out of fuel on this trip. Strapped 1 of the 44's to the bow, 1 on the marlin board and the rest went inside, I made it to another country.

Surfers Paradise to Papua New Guinea, once you check-out at Cairns you are not allowed to touch the mainland of Australia again till you reach your destination. Went for a swim at Lizard island and out of frigg'n no-where an RIB full of gun toting Aussies were onto us in a flash, fucked if I know where they came from.                        Was all good, flashed our paperwork and shit, on our way again....8hrs later is when the shit really hit the fan....holy fuck, did I get into some trouble....fuck'n scary shit, but thats another story for later...maybe

Sounds very interesting, there used to be some very funny people working up that way a fair while ago pre border force.

Fuel bladder?

Thu, 2019-02-21 05:41

Why not use a bladder?  You could buy a bladder that would hold about the same fuel for not much more than it cost you for all the drums.  Much less messing around.

Porting

Thu, 2019-02-21 06:04

It would have been your customs clearance that prevented you from porting to get extra fuel, the way to get around it is to pull in and buy a new navigation light bulb, then refuel while in there. That way you cover yourself by working the safety angle. We had the same when bringing a trawler over from NZ, we saw customs in Eden and were told to go non stop from there to Fremantle but we stopped off in Albany for a night and got questioned on why we stopped when we reached Freo. Our response was that it was unsafe for us to travel at night with proper lighting, there was nothing they could do about it.
