I must confess that I'm interested to know at the end of the day what happened to this fish also.

It would be a crime if it ended up on the rubbish tip such a bad ending for a magneficent fish

I guess the same as every other marlin they weigh... filleted and distributed amongst the crowd. Never been a problem getting rid of it before.

epic fish... the bloody tail would have to be a metre and a half high, no wonder it took so long to get in. hard enough catchin a 1.5m fish!

not a bad size at all. shame

Thu, 2012-11-01 18:28

not a bad size at all. shame it was taken like that but after that amount of fighting my guess that it would have been spent with no chance of recovery. heard they taste great tho. congrats to the angler

Thu, 2012-11-01 20:47

That's an awesome fish. We're talking a 700lb fish on 80lb gear, that's quality fishing right there.

I was told

Fri, 2012-11-02 19:53

I was told that the whole town turned up for the weigh in. Marlin is great tucker smoked and for most people the only time they would get to try marlin is at weigh ins. I'm pretty sure that this fish would have been divided up.

It's a whole different

Sat, 2012-11-03 17:54

It's a whole different argument. Marlin are certainly not endangered and it was split up and consumed by the community.
As far as I'm concerned its as sustainable as keeping a 10kg red or dhu... Hardly like blokes are going to kill enough of them to put the stocks in any kind of danger.

Here here Dodgy.10kg red

Sun, 2012-11-04 12:23

Here here Dodgy.

10kg red would almost be the same age as the Blue and there are plenty of them fish around for a few to be weighed.

Didnt see a blue on Friday, worked hard all day at the rigs with Bernie, dropped a 150kg black on Tuesday.  :(  Got told Eddie dropped a 600lb'er that ate 4 baits and still didn't hook up on Friday, its hit and miss, but plenty of hits from what I've been hearing.

I can imagine what he was

Sun, 2012-11-04 10:06

I can imagine what he was feeling. Brings back memories to when I hooked into one at Gnaraloo around the 100kg mark it was virtually unstoppable. If everyone feasted on it then all the better.
