Fun police out in force , literally.

Loaded the cruiser up and decided last min to head up to wedge for a night.

Absolutely stunned at the amount of Police patrolling around the wedge turn off.

Counted around 8 cars (1 unmarked) and 2 bikes and a bus.  Saw them pulling 3 different people over.

Must be a hell of a revenue raiser there.

They'd set up a roadblock into wedge (new road) with a big sign saying camping overnight illegal and fines given.

We initially joined the queue but chucked a U'ey as we were fully  loaded to stay overnight and had the mutt.

Well , that was our Easter trip done there and then.

Back home now.

It shits me to tears that they put those police resources into stopping people/family's  having a bit of fun beach camping.

It should be a right that is being taken away.

What is happening here?????

Getting like the UK .   It's a real shame

I am actually guessing that the rangers were also there to enforce on the beach, as none of the many police around, had 4wd's.

(I didn't see a ranger the whole time)

Stay out of the action on big holiday periods. The people making decisions for our society have post codes that only a few get to live at. They are slowly setting up most things to reflect their own attitudes. Dont want fun at Wedge - there is going to be resort developments there. The black top road wasnt put in so fishing spots are easier to get to  :).

They might just be showing their presence on the road, there was something in the news about cops trying to reduce road fatalitys this weekend, after all there a fair chance ppl will die this weekend on the road.

just went to the beach to camp and do a quite bit of fishing then it would probably still be allright but half the clowns think it`s allright to leave all their shit behind on the beach and the other half think the beach is a racetrack and the 100`s of motor bikes flying around.i`ve been camping up there since the early 80`s and it`s been illegal for most of that time but everyone turned a blind eye but just too many people being idiots these days.

totally agree.  The amount of boats out this morning in Leeman, two ramps are packed, at a guess about 50boats and that doesn't count other areas where to launch from beach.  The ocean is like a mill pond and apparently the rest of the Easter break, light sea breeze in arvo.

Never seen so many Police up here for Easter either, usually don't see any during a normal working week.

Caravan park is full of illegal dirt bikes, as they all have to be registered here.  Nearly hit a young kid on a dirt bike yesterday, me coming down a dirt track, young kid roared around the bend, he nearly was a bonnet trophy or my bukll bar would have done so much damage to him, no registeration on his bike, if he hit me, how the hell do I claim from my insurance company.  Watched idiots at LA racing up and done the beach, was waiting for a accident, why speed on a beach, I scratch my head and wonder what they are teaching their kids to be future drivers.

Sat, 2013-03-30 08:45

I agree as well. There will always be a minority that do the wrong thing. Do you correct this problem by stopping the majority who comply to the rules from access to camping, 4wd ect. Surely if they spent as much time prosecuting people who litter and break the rules as they do moving on and giving fines to law abiding public wanting to access W.A,s natural enviroment they would go a long way to fixing the problem. A good example of this is on Rainbow beach Queensland. You often see the police on the beach. There not moving people on but using radar to fine the idiots that race up and down the beach.

Most reasons why shires and DEC close areas to the public have little to do with the environment and more to do with local economy and dollar sign.

Make your voice heard

Sat, 2013-03-30 10:07

It is one thing to complain on these forums about the state of our country..it is another to speak to your local politician and air your grievances with him/her. Last year when the fishing bans were being proposed, we organised a rally of boats. We have the largest per capita boats per head of population in WA and yet there were only a few hundred showed up.

Yet we are willing to bitch about everything on forums like this. This is what a democracy is all about. If you have a bitch, act upon it. Tell these wankers on the hill in Perth or Canberra that you aren't happy with these restrictions and keep bitching until you get a reaction. The reason why minority factions get what they want is because the majority is too lazy to do something about what they hold dear. Wake up boys and girls, things happen for a reason not accidentally.

I cant see where anybody suggests that either the party or individuals promote illegal beach camping or activities. You are probably thinking of the Greens. They seem to tresspass, chain them selves to private property, climb trees and break council rules on a daily basis with little or no reprecussions. I guess You have that sort of time on your hands when you dont have to work, they must get board.

95 % of people on the beaches do the right thing, take the rubbish home,m keep to a safe speed when driving on the beach and give respect to all the others doing it peaceful on the beach. Now instead of the rangers and the police treating all of the beach goers like they are all breaking the law why not put a few people on the beach in uniform and target the law breakers and confiscate there vehicle bike whatever right there and then. Not for a few piddling days but forever, they stuff up everones time stuff up there time by taking there toy off them and crush it . No fear of the consiquences no gain in behaviour or respect for the law.

Drawing a long bow look at what happened down my way the other week a young bloke walking home at 7.45pm not quite dark yet 3 low life decide to kill him.

Why don't I go out any more .....I wonder.

lucky bay

Sat, 2013-03-30 20:00

well I run sandboarding tours at lucky bay south of Kalbarri and I can tell ya that if I had a gun I would shoot every guy on a bike and quad. they endanger my customers by hacking the dunes I sandboard on while the people are on them. its a lawless land and the sooner it is regulated the better. seeing 10 yr old kids on bikes no shirt shoes helmet or protective gear! what a joke. If you can see it from the other side then you will see different. The peanuts that hack the dunes in 4wds down there are a joke no respect no clue! no sympathy. but I do feel sorry for you not being able to camp at wedge. there is definitely an agenda going on down that way. lucky bay today is crazy. I have 13 ppl tmw and im shitting myself cos these peanuts don't give a crap and I cant do anything about it!

Sun, 2013-03-31 13:56

Were in at Sandy Cape now, got up on Wednesday and the full signs were up then. The sites north and south along the coast. People are squeezing in, setting up and being asked to leave.

It's a real piss off to find this beautiful beach then find a pile of smashed bottles. Even in the sand dunes, you climb down to the bottom and smashed bottles.

Sme people are bastards and really don't help the majority who want to spend a few nights away camping.

Sun, 2013-03-31 16:10

shire has done here, closed off Gum Tree, but all the campers are camped at Illiwong and Dumper Bay, people everywhere, could't go for a nice fish on the jetty at Illowong, two blokes there taking up the whole jetty for themselves, stuff anybody else that wanted to fish, including us, had to turn around and go home.  Right hand flicker (heading back to Leeman) on to go down a track, 3 hoons in 4x4's turned onto our track, dust and stones evrywhere, speeding, stuff this old fart says, and we ended up going home. Two girls missed out fishing because of a....holes.

trouble is the scumbag 5% and

Mon, 2013-04-01 12:27

trouble is the scumbag 5% and I think its more than that actually are making an impact with the people who make the decisions to close and restrict your access to places every year ,

every week im down a beach , I don't think there is one trip , where you see some numnut doing something that just makes you wonder wtf is wrong with people ,

dune climbing on dirt bikes
dune climbing on 4 x 4
speeding on beaches , speeding down dual use coast tracks almost having ahead on each week etc ,,leaving shite behind after camping , last long weekend three large smashed up gazebo frames where left on minninup beach , just bent up and left there ??wtf ,

just cause you have a 4by/bike doesn't give peeps the right to go feral off road and stuff it up for others ,

I was on DEC committee last year , looking at ways to improve and renovate some coastal areas south around margs ,that had just become national park , from the shire
it was clearly obvious the other members had an agenda to restrict access & camping in their back yard , so we voted , nothing in my points of view where successful to stop the closure of more coast access ,

why ??purely because the overwhelming majority on the committee had experience of F/WITS , doing the wrong thing on their coast , simple answer was to close it down to keep control , they live their so they don't need to camp , many did not fish , or boat, the surf brigade , no offence , got what they wanted though , funny that
the overall logic of environment and fire , litter , bad behaviour won through ,

good behaviour dosnt leave a message behind ,no good impact can be seen when if you do the right thing
but just a few shitty examples of dumb ignorant behaviour makes a big impact time and time again
so the more like 20% and rising number of f/wits are getting us all blocked out and places shut down

expect to keep losing access , while the clowns among us continue to behave like they do

well said. lucky bay perfect example. but id say for this easter period it was more like 15% up here. just crazy! and when they are all gone, its people like me who instead of trying to make customers enjoy a day out sandboarding, I pick up shit all day!! The tracks are butchered. kids running round everywhere and these heros in their 4wds doing 80ks n hr along the tracks! To me they are all rednecks and that's how I treat them! But its sad to see because eventually it will all be regulated and if you have unregistered off road vehicles you will not be allowed in! Good for me cos I get peace and quiet in the dunes but bad for those families with kids that come up and do the right thing and want to enjoy themselves! School hols coming up in Cpl weeks and its on all over again except this time ill be taking photos of these peanuts and if anyone from this site is one of them I will name and shame you on this site! today 2 young guys snorkelling with short giggies in lucky bay with gloves on! definitely not going for fish! while their parents sat on the beach watching them! Please respect places like this because this is my back yard for play and work. You wouldn't like me backing my troopy up on yr verge at your house and digging it up and dumping crap so don't do up here. Lucky bay is a special place for the locals up here and everyone here dreads it when holidays come round! unfortunately its been put in the too hard basket to deal with!

Mon, 2013-04-01 17:28

Hmmm all was going good with our weekend until some moron decided to steal my sons $400 scooter from up our drive and which was hidden behind my car. The thing that saddens me is that if it was a kid they would have needed a parent to facillitate taking that scooter out of the park. There are some really sad pathetic people out there that just don't care about other people's belongings or the general enviroment in which we live. It was outright theft and I would have pressed charges if I found out who the scumbags were. The boys were devastated. So now we have to ensure at our little piece of paradise everything of value is locked up.
