furuno 295 reef runner

Any one experienced installing trannys in these boats.

Bought the boat last year. Low and high freq trannys are in seperate wet boxes just back of mid ships. High works ok but dont get good sounding at planing speed.

Went out deep yesterday and low freq tranny was terrible. Needed really high gain to get a picture and then way too much clutter.

I know midships is not a good place for trannys so will be moving them ones or some new ones. I reckon the reason they put them there was the lack of bilge area and the storage compartment gave the most access.

Im thinking the easiest would be transom mount, otherwise cutting a hole in the back deck.

I will also be calling taylor marine but appreciate any input you guys might have

Cheers

Gray

Gray,I just got out of a reefrunner with a midships thru hull tranny, mine worked well...Is your wetbox cut into the subfloor panel, second kill well inbetween seats?? If not, then you are transmitting thru the panel, then thru egg sandwich style support panel, then thru the hull which will effect it ability to work well..Mine worked well in 550m out wide on 50 khz

Taylor marine know transducers don't worry! Some people just put them in stupid places!!!! Saw one today 2kw 50 kHz hooked up to a 295, transom mount and the skipper was moaning that it doesn't work over 10 knots. He had it on a square block at the back of the boat dropped down 3 inches from hull with no lead in at all.

"leed" in....I think he is talking a transition piece to smooth the water flow. It is all about getting clean water over the face.
