Furuno 585 delaminating
Submitted by sea-kem on Sun, 2020-11-29 18:44
G'day all I think this issue might have come up before but my beloved 585 is starting to delaminate on the screen. I've also managed to break the power plug at the back so the lead doesn't 'lock in' anymore. Anyone know of anywhere local that can give the unit some TLC and sort these issues?
Cheers

Cheers John, will look em up. This unit has been absolutely awesome and in my opinion no need for an upgrade as it does what I want it to do.

Haven’t locked my power plug in for years
I keep the terminals spotlessly clean with a soft toothbrush and a tiny bit of crc and simply push fit both plugs and don't lock them in place. Never had an issue. ditto some minor delaminating early on but it has been stable for many years (touch wood)

You are right it does
You are right it does actually hold in without locking Gordon, but some times bounces out when we hit a spine cruncher lol

585
My 585 has been delaminates for years. It has got a little, worse (over 5 years) but still works fine. I think fixing it is pretty costly if it bothers you that much....will be interested to hear what taylor marine say if you speak with them.

Hi Andy, can you post a pic pls. My 585 is starting to get bubbling around the outer edges, which I assume might be the start of delaminating. Be interested to see what yours looks like.

Adam, mine looks exactly the same
A few bubbles around the very edges......but it has stayed like that for at least five years from when it first appeared. Got really hot on a trip up north just before I noticed the issue. I now shield the back of the unit with a towel in summer so perhaps that is why it hasn't got any worse

Touch wood my 585 that's 15
Touch wood my 585 that's 15 years old is still fine. It did have a screen protector on it for the first 5 years if its life. Maybe that helped it.
