Furuno 620- what Tranny???
Guys, I have just bought a 2052 Trophy and I was hoping you could help with how I should set it up... I have dash mounted the HDS7 and I was going to fit the FCV 620 to the hard top so it can be seen from the whole deck. before I starter to run cables and drill holes I wanted to make sure I fitted the best system I could. I had thought that I might sell the 620 and upgrade to the 585 with a 1KW tranny but after doing a bit of a search I saw that someone had some screen shots from a 620 @ 180m depth and the resolution looked great. is there a need to spend another 3k on a 585 to get the same results, on average i only fish upto 45/50m but would like to be able to go 150m+ if I felt the urge.. Basicaly what I am asking is what is the best transducer I can fit as the 620 only has a 600w output? does anyone have a similar boat / fcv620 set up they can advise on the type and postion of their transducer?
Also does anyone know how to network the smartcraft of the Mercrusier to the Lowrance? It had a Navman when I bought it but I would rather get the smartcraft working with the HDS.
Cheers Guys...

Nice buy! Really the good
Nice buy!
Really the good news about using the FCV620 is you might as well keep it cheap and use the P66 in one format or another, thru-hull, in-hull or transome mount.

im with till keep the 620
unless you are planning on going deeper than 150 ihad the 620 with a through hull transducer and it worked great to 120 metres and fairly well to 160 after that it depended on the weather on how well it would work! my preference is in hull but you do loose a little power that way although in my experiences it will perform a bit better at high speed! when in the hull!

or you could buy a 585 for
or you could buy a 585 for 1300 from usa to your door and still use the p66 to keep things cheap with option to upgrade later
larger screen for viewing from a distance. just an option.
lovely tub btw.
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

So did I.
I just new you could pick up a 585 for half what winta suggested since the 587's soon to be available. could possibly be a game changer.

the 587????? I presume this
the 587????? I presume this is a new model to replace the 585..... I will do some reading on them now... maybe it would be worth keeping the 620 and getting the 587 when there are a few real life reviews available...

It looks like the 627 is
It looks like the 627 is already available from Whitworths... $1399.... I have found a small amount of info on the 627/ 587 and agree with most of the comments that furuno could have added a few more features.... NMEA being one of them!
Still this would suugest it could be worth waiting for the 587 to come out and look at upgrading then.
I think I will just fit the 620 for now and wait and see how it goes in the new boat..... I am going to order a P79 in hull and see how it performs as my biggest complaint with the 620 is it won't read at speeds ove 10 kts and that the transom mount P66 kicks up too easily. Hopefully this will solve the problems.
Thanks for the comments guys...

if you are thinking of upgrading to the 587
later why dont you spend the dollars now and buy a 1kw transducer?? the 620 will still run it and you will get a better picture than the 600watt

ah will it? that was kind of
ah will it? that was kind of my question from the begining.... I diidn't know if you could run or if it would even inprove the resolution/ quality of a 1KW tranny... if you can then, thats exactly what I would like to do and if I can find room in the hull I will fit an M260 wet box.

Some of the trophy boats have a wetbox built in already, but if yours doesn't its not hard, and not a bad idea either as the regular casing for the m260 can be hard to fit in somewhere.

Have a look at the airmar
Have a look at the airmar link on the comparison between a 1kw tranny and a 600w one driven by a 600w sounder, it should answer your question. Thats just for the 260, look at the 258 and 270 as well. All different price ranges for different applications.

Where in the document does it show how well that transducer will work on a 600W Sounder?

Bottom left hand corner is a
Bottom left hand corner is a direct comparison between different tranducers including the one you suggested. Here is another bit of info on another airmar transducer the 258 which also comes in a transom mount and is probably better suited to someone who normally doesnt go over the 100m mark much.
New for 2006, we have launched our B258, a 1kW dual-frequency (50/200kHz)
transducer engineered to make popular 600W fishfinders perform like their more
powerful big brothers—especially when operating at 50kHz. It is the ideal
transducer choice for recreational sportfishing boats, 26 feet and larger, as well
as small to mid-sized commercial fishing boats.
This bronze thru-hull transducer replaces our venerable B256 model, maximizing
the performance of fishfinders from all major manufacturers. It comes standard
with a precision temperature sensor and can be installed on vessels with up to 25
degrees of deadrise when used with a High-performance Fairing.
Featuring our new, multi-ceramic-element construction, the B258 is 25 times
more sensitive at 50 kHz than a single-element transducer, and 16 times more
sensitive at 200 kHz. The B258’s narrow beam configurations will clearly display
individual fish targets and separate bottom fish from habitat at depths up to 2,200
feet.

That left hand corner:
It doesn't say that is on a 600W sounder, it compares a P79(600W) with a M260(1kW).

Here it is Till especially
Here it is Till especially for you. Airmar comparison for its entry level 1kw trandsducer directly compared to the tm p66.
http://www.airmartechnology.com/uploads/brochures/tm258.pdf
"TM 258 will make 600w sounders respond like a more powerful model. Get 16 times the sensitivity compared with a standard transom mounted transducer" It talks sensitivity not power.
Im running a 1kw transducer on my boat driven by a 600w sounder, just changed up from the 600w transducer whilst Im waiting for the 1kw sounder to come, whats on your boat ?
Up to you mrwinta plenty of information on the net, make the choice that best suits you and your budget.

Fair enough, I was a bit
Fair enough, I was a bit puzzled when you referenced the M260 pdf, I couldn't see it anywhere in there.
The deal with the 1kW trannys on 600W sounders is probably much like big antennas v's big transmitters. You can always benefit from the larger receive array on the 1kW transducer, but you just can't use more TX power.
The P66 is only a single-element sounder, the TM258 is getting on a bit and has 4 dual elements, but the much newer and better TM260 has seperate 50 and 200khz elements, probably why it is so much better.
Not my boat, but the one I usually fish off has the FCV585, MB110 and a couple big primary transducers in it, another way to solve the problem.

No problems Till. I picked up
No problems Till. I picked up the tm258 on this site for $175 and by fluke realised that its more sensative in the 200mhz range than the airmar tm260. Perfect for me because I mainly dive and fish around the 50m mark and sometimes a little wider(fish) The 260 is much better in the 50mhz range, and offers better sensativity in deep water. The sounder display is much improved with the 258 on my unit.

I don't think I have seen a
I don't think I have seen a wetbox already fitted... any ideas where it would be? I have had a good look around the engine bay and it looks too tight to fit anything in there...
I am away at the moment so I can't have a look till I get home but I may remove one of the underfloor fish boxes as they are crap the way they bilge pump out and you can never get rid of that last bit of bloody water etc. I am thinking of trying to make removable boxes instead and that way I should get access to fit an M260....
It would be great to hear from anyone with a Trophy who has done either of these mods.....

the 2352 model has an access hatch
in front of the engine compartment where duel batteries are stored, there is room in there to fit possibly a wet box, im also away working at the moment so cant check my boat but id be looking in there somewhere if your model has the same access.
also if you go to the trophy website you can download full breakdown manuals of your boat showing every single part you can order, maybe have a look at these drawings in the meantine untill you get home.

Yea it hes the access hatch
Yea it hes the access hatch infront of the engine but it is strait onto the fuel tank so no room there... I might be able to fit it in the transom under where the batteries are located.... Thanks for the tip on the trophy website...

Well I have gone with the TM260 @$810 delivered... can't wait to fit it now! I had been talking to a guy who thought he could get me the 587 too but as it turns out he can't... They get released in September so that gives me a bit of time to save up....
It's typical though, 10 minutes after paying for the ducer I was telling a work mate about it and he said "ah shit I have one in my shed you can have".... Never mind...
Big thanks to the guys who helped me with the decision...

I'm resisting the urge to buy
I'm resisting the urge to buy one of these myself, Where did you get one for that price MrWinta ?? Whitworths have them for $1k shipped and is about the cheapest I've found.
