furuno fcv 1100

What are peoples thoughts on this unit?
And what power rating would you choose 1kw or 2kw?
And what price do they go for?

they're awesome!

Tue, 2007-11-06 17:40

Yeh i own one and run a 2kw 200khz and 2kw 28khz in a wetbox. The sounder is the most popular crayfishing and wetlinning sounder around and my family have used them before on crayboats. They go for bewteen 5-6k ball park plus transducers.

The unit is awesome, alot of money but we'll worth it imo!

Yeah not my decision, my dad

Tue, 2007-11-06 18:50

Yeah not my decision, my dad is likely getting a new boat and wants a big screen (one that he can actually see), plus we are going to be heading out in deaper water 250m, grey banded cod territory!

So how would the 585 perform in that depth?

And at what speed does the unit drop out?

Dean,

After talking to a few guys I've decided to go with the 585. Only downside at the moment is there as rare as rocking horse poo. Taylor Marine currently have 40 on backorder for there dealers!

yeah need to have a think about it, the unti would probably be run with split screen half on bottom lock and the other full screen so 8.4'' can quickly become small again.  hopefully tim or bouttime will have a look at this topic and post a reply, or i'll shoot them a pm.

Thanks for ya help

Tue, 2007-11-06 19:28

I think buying overseas with electronics is risky, if anything goes wrong you have the hassle of sending it back and forth for repairs and more often than not your are charged for postage, where as if you buy local you have piece of mind that it can be fixed a lot more easier.  IMO

Plus looking at some websites before the savings don't seem to be huge.

Tue, 2007-11-06 19:28

Still waiting for mine to arrive but was on a mates boat and in 115mtrs of water held bottom sitting on 20knts no probs. Was very happy with the way the unit goes. Using split screen still way big enough to see whats going on. Finding fish no probs and when used properly utilising all the settings will have no problems holding bottom in 250-300mtrs. Saw photos of the unit holding bottom in 500mtrs of water with the 1KW transducer. Its a personal thing but unless your out there day in day out why spend the xtra $4K if you don't need to. Mine will set me back $2600 with the 1KW and if you shop around you might find better.

Just have to wait now till mine turns up.

I did the maths and by the time it gets to the front door i would have only saved about $400 and thats if i didn't have to pay sales tax. Decided to buy local so if anything did go wrong than only have to pop in to the shop to get it fixed. My mate got his overseas and is happy at the moment but only time will tell.

585 for me

Tue, 2007-11-06 20:35

Dean Im with tapout on this one. Went through the whole thing with weighing up going the whole hog and getting an 1100. For me I just couldnt justify the extra $$$$. The screen is plenty big enough on the 585. I run bottom lock one side and 200khz on the other and can easy see both while standing at the back fishing.
Only got the 600w transducer atm as the 1kw I got had an issue from the factory - (thank god I bought local otherwise Id be $1300 down). Can still do 25knts+ in 120m and get good bottom. The 600w will work out to 250m but you need to move slowly when doing that. With the 1kw that depth is no problem at all.

Bouttime - I think yours is included in the 40 Big John mentioned.

BJ - Is that the transom mount tranny John.

b&w sounders

Tue, 2007-11-06 20:52

as im not too keen on spend big $ on sounders andy, im just wondering how this sounder has served u over the years? i might just a top of wazza b&w sounder (if theres such thing), but i have been looking at the Furuno LS-4100, this sounder shows a sharp display! spose it would do the job wouldnt it?

Now now Tim!

Tue, 2007-11-06 21:08

It is just a safety feature, shutting down as soon as it senses anyone looking at the co-ordinates.

Or maybe just a loose wire.

Sam the 160 blue is very good as long as you tweak the gain and use a split zoom, I gat bottom coverage at 25knots and the image is pretty clear.

As I said it finds the fish so its pretty much all I need in a sounder. (However a nice new shiny one with pretty colours would be good too.)

B&W make finding flat coral pretty difficult but after a while you can do it, just not as easily.

New Chart plotter would be high on my list of things for the boat.

Challenge Marine could certainly do me a good local price, but if they can't guarantee me one before Xmas its a moot point IMO.

Yeah Tim, that's the 1kw transom mount.

Looking at a chartplotter Andy but I'll check out how this purchase works out first.

cant go wrong regardless!

Wed, 2007-11-07 12:26

I've got my 620 and 585 on B/O, hopefully by the end of November....the Furuno demand is high!

Dean, the 585 is a great sounder and at the price it's the best on the market with or without the 1kw. The screen is big enough for a split and you can see more than enough.

The FCV1100 on the other hand is sweet for a commercial unit and your old man needs to weight up the options (i've never looked back...best  money spent). I run a-scope/200khs/bottom lock so 3 screens but the a-scope is only small (RH side) and the a-scope is awesome (took a while to get used too). This makes you see harder ground before your onto it and helps your eyes not burning out ie waiting for bottom to come up. I recomend a-scope on the 585 if you go that way too. The 1kw tranys are fine on the FCV1100 but i'd go the 2kw 200 (approx  $440) and the 2kw 50khz ($1770 approx)

My last one i sold to Dalmatinac for $4500 but i dont think you'll get it that low in general, the special price that Taylor Marine was doing has finished. If you get one i'm happy to set it up, i've had mine for 2 years and have refined my settings!

Pm me if ya want!

Bonzer Imports are Fantastic

Wed, 2007-11-07 20:12

I cannot rate Bonzer Imports highly enough.
Between my brother and i we have spent well over 6 grand with him.
It is at you door within 6-9 days.
You can track it all the way to your doorstep.
All the gear is fully covered by a full warranty. ( we had a little problem with a chart plotter, but Dave took over, had it fixed and back to us with in a fortnight) he took the cost!!!!!
You can ring him toll free.
What more can you want.

Transducer arrived safely today. Got a pleasant surprise when it was a straight pickup from the post office, without any GST/customs fees required. You beauty, $200 spondoolies still in my pocket.

Bit of a worry though when the transducer packaging is larger than the box that the sounder arrived in.

For those people interested in an overseas electronics purchase, the companies website address that I dealt with is www.marinedeal.com.

Very good Sam, whenever I emailed them they were very prompt with their replies. Good service. I put the order in on the 2nd of November and recieved the sounder yesterday and the transducer today using USPS Express Mail Service (EMS).

I would have bought local IF stock was available but I'm pretty happy with picking up the whole package for $2040 Aussie. There's some nice chart plotters on there.

It was good of you imo to try local John, not good that the "boat show discounters" left the WA stocks bare of certain/popular Furuno stuff especially right upon the cray seaon and leading up to X-mas........that i dont like!

Enjoy, a great unit for sure!

Poor planning

Tue, 2007-11-13 20:17

It's either very poor planning Ryan or a misreading of how popular these units have become in a cashed up marketplace. I suspect it's a little bit of both, but yeah, summer's coming!

Tue, 2007-11-13 20:28

When i spoke to Furuno John they said that Japan was making many of their other products and the production run of models was so large that it takes it's time to get around and then we're only a small market place at that.

Oh well, it's the way it is but after the boat show people were coming in to buy up but no stocks, i've got a way around it next boat show!

International Shipping

Fri, 2007-11-30 07:56

I used the USPS Express Mail International shipping, as it was the cheapest but you can still track the package with the shipping number that they email you.

I ordered on a Friday and recieved both packages on Monday/Tuesday week (10-11days).

I was looking at a colour GPS as well but I've decided on holding off for now, and if things go to plan with some shares I own, getting a Furuno 10.4" Navnet Gps/Radar in about 12 months. They look pretty awesome and by buying a network sounder you can also use them as either a 1,2 or 3kw sounder!
