furuno fcv 620 vs 627

Hi all,

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the fcv 620 vs the 627.

At an extra $400 is the 627 that much better. The funds will stretch the extra but if I don't have to thats money I can spend elsewhere.

I'm not fishing in too deep water as I'm out of Dampier and don't think I've got to 40m in my boat but I would like to go a bit deeper if I make it down to Exmouth

Keen to hear any comments and experiences.

Cheers Nath

bottom recognition

the 627 has  bottom recognition so down the bottom of the screen it will tell you what bottom your fishing (rock sand weed mud) worth the extra in my opinion

Double the resolution

Have not seen a 627 in the flesh but it does have double the resolution over the 620.

I would have thought that in itself would be worth the extra $400.

A few new additions

Fri, 2012-08-24 07:14

I used to have a 585 & now have the new 587, there are 4 good new features in my opinion

---Bottom discrimination can help people distinguish what kind of bottom you have (rock/sand/gravel/mud) if you didnt know that before

---Accu fish can tell you how deep the fish are & how large they are

NOTE these to functions Noted above only work at the moment with the standard p66 transducer (there will be a software update to make it work in nov with the 1kw)

But this should bother you if you are looking at the 627 because you will be using the p66 trany

---Post processing gain control  this is a good feature so you can turn your gain up or down & the whole screen does what you ask it to (very handy)

---New lcd screen is brighter & allows you to view from any angle with polarized glases (very good)

The upgrades on the 627 are the same

In my opinion i am glad i got the new unit

I have the 585 and mine has the same function where you can tell either how deep or what size! So that's not a new function

Got the sounder out for an hour this arvo and she looks pretty good. I need to adjust the transducer a bit and then play with a few settings but I'm very happy.
