furuno sound pic

 Hi Guys,

Recently upgraded to a FCV 587 with a P66 transducer. Found a spot of hillarys and wanting your thoughts on the ground. There seems to be a small rise of a 1-2 meters prior

to sounder showing whats circled in red, Is it reef/coral sturture ontop of a hard bottom?

I had the sounder in auto/fishing mode as I am still learning to read the bottom. Anyone got any tips on settings if I switch to manual mode.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

It would catch my eye, but I set mine up the other way, bottom lock on right and picture on left so you have a wider outlook.

Following is how to set up, get out of auto

Fish

I find that when mine shows decent corally lumps it normally comes up strong off the bottom, then generally weekens on the top. You seem to have a 50cm+ gap offf the bottom with little return then returns above that. I’d agree without johnF and say most likely fish.

 Manual settings I use.gain 6

 Manual settings I use.

gain 6 min

clutter erase 20%

color erase 16 %

tx power 100

tx rate MAX

turn off bottom discrimination

turn off acce fish.

scroll speed 1/1

shift right and zoom right hand side to show 15m of water in that depth.

Regarding confirming what the sounder is showing attack the mark from different angles, quite often bottom lock will show a gap if you don’t get the beam right over the lump.

But from freedivingexperience you don’t need a lot of structure to catch baldies quite often super low plate coral will hold them. Trick is working out where they regularly are at.
