Gear gone swimming at Preston Beach

Went fishing at my favourite Tailor spot about 10km North of Preston Beach this weekend.  Caught a number of Tailor and a Shovelnose Ray during the day. As the sun was setting I attached my new Daiwa Saltist 50H to the Purglas 350 rod which I recently imported and slid a Tailor head out for Shark.  I continued fishing for Tailor and when I turned around to check on my rod it was gone!  My mate and I took a couple of casts and he managed to hook onto the rod and could feel the fish pulling.  He managed to gain a couple of metres before his 4kg line snapped.  We spent the next hour casting trebles into the dark to try and hook the rig - but to no avail.

If anybody does pull my rig out by chance please let me know - willing to pay a reward.

I've done the same thing

Mon, 2013-02-11 08:56

I've done the same thing before (with a cheaper rod though). It hurts. Learned my lesson & now I always run a super light drag when fishing a rod in a holder. Hope you end up getting it back.

did you mark the spot above the high water mark

Mon, 2013-08-12 21:17

have you left a marker on the beach or noted a prominent land mark as a reference point to come back to.

seems like it happens alot, ive certainly learnt the lesson the hard way too!  didnt care what dragged it in, went swimming straight after it, no luck though.

then a week or 2 later found a saragosa and platinum ugly stick washed up on a beach the combo looked like it had been slammed up against a few dozen reefs!  definately no salvaging.

what stuff have other people found washed up after a storm?

Lost gear

Wed, 2013-08-14 14:21

I lost a custom Snyder and Spheros FA14000 off the beach at Wagoe! Looked up to see it cruising through the shore break. Watched for about 10 seconds then it dissapered into the horizon. No way I was jumping into chase it as the swell was pumping at 3mtrs.

It definately sucks and hurts the hip pocket.

i found a penn 950 and snyder in the sand at wagoe looked like it fell off somones roof served them right to i would say by the way some pricks drive around up there

i always fish really light drag on my set rod anyway gives a big fish a chance to get it down less resistance to scare off a big mulla too
