Gelcoat repairs / Restorers

G'day,

Hoping someone can help me out here. I have an old sharkcat (Bruce Harris 565 series), she is an ex rescue boat and is a beatiful bright canary yellow colour . I have just recently installed new motors and while I'm not overly concerned about cosmetic I have started to think about getting her re- coated. The gelcoat is fairly well faded and has a fair few cracks in certain places.

Just wondering if anyone could recommend anyone or if anyone has any idea of the costs that are involved (rough estimate obviously) ?? Would be nice to get her looking like she just came off the factory floor again....

Cheers in advance.

Hi Anthony

Regelcoating would be a exspensive option very labour intensive as the finish off the gun is full of orange peel and has to be wet rubbed to achieve a fine finish. This is a harder finish than 2 pak paint though will cost thousands more .Depending on products and finish desired you could get a new paint job between $2.500-$8.000. You would save a considerable amount by removing all the hardware and even do the first rub down your self . Iam a newbie to Perth though have seem some nice paint work from the Painter at hillary,s boat Yard.

I have had mine about two

I have had mine about two years, grew up fishing on my god fathers up at green head. Been in some nasty seas in his over the years and it has never let us down. Have a couple of other boats first and when I saw this come up I grabbed it because there isn't too many around. Was pretty thirsty with the old two stroke mercs but now with the new 115 hp Yammi fourstroke she flies and uses at least 50% less fuel.

What sort of motors did you go for? Thought the weight might be a problem but she handles it fine.

Yeah I was looking at going the mercs as well, my old ones were starting to let me down but they had a hard life before I got the boat.

Pretty happy with the yammi's though, so far so good. You fishing out of Perth in yours? might see you out on the water....

Yeah I am really keen to do it because its a great big little boat, I can see myself keeping it forever.

Might have to spend a few more months on the water first though, loving having the boat back with new motors!!
