Gnaraloo Land Based Fishing

Hi All,

New to the site and have been loving reading all the great article, checking all the cool pics and vids.

I'm heading up to Gnaraloo in a week and was wondering if it is possible to fish off of the coast. I have heard there are fishing restrictions up there but can't seem to find any information on exactly where I can and cannot throw a line in. I haven't got access to a boat or kayak unfortunately but for previous fishing trip reports it sounds like there are plenty of fish I could catch off the beach if I am allowed.

Any help regarding restricted zones, rod/reel preferences, lures, plastics would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

When you go

down to the bay from the station.( where most boats are launched from)  there is a sign there that is as clear as mud..   You have to head north along the beach in the bay up to a yellow pole above high water mark and a sign is posted there facing away from the ramp and half a shelter...    You can fish north of that sign but don't fish in the bay south of it.  I found out the hard way.   We always thought that from the sign it meant south of the ramp was no go but on our last trip there We nearly encounted a fine for thwoing out one cast on the rod...  Was just trying to untangle an ugly nest and wasn't actually fishing..   I know the guys in the other boat received over 800 dollars in fines because they actually landed and released a fish from in front of the ramp area...

Thanks Chookc & Sea-Kem.

I'll take your advice and probably ask about when I get there. Don't really want to ruin the trip with a big fat fine.

Gear-wise, I have a 6'6 light rod with a 3000 spin reel and 6lb braid, a 7'1 Penn rod and 8500 reel combo with 30lb mono & a 14' Beach caster with 15lb mono. Should I bother taking them all up? Probably will anyway :)  I was thinking of casting soft plastics and lures around off the beach, any suggestions here? Is it possible to get bait from the shop on the way in? If so what should I be looking for - Mullies and Squid or any secret weapons anyone wants to reveal??? What should I be targeting of the beach at this time of the year?

Thanks again for the help......getting excited now!!!

Take mulies. Also some poppers and metal slices for the Trevors. It's a long bay so you shoul be able to find some good shore based spots. I'll be looking forward to hearing how you go.
