SW Sambo Session
Submitted by Seaquest on Thu, 2011-10-27 08:20
Headed out yesterday for a sambo jigging session. The weather was the best I had seen it in ages. Glass from the time we left to the time we came home.
Once we reached our destination it took a while to find them but when we eventually did we found them in a big way. We ended up having a two hour session of non stop sambos. Left them still on the bite with sore arms and backs.
Sounder shot of a bait ball surrounded by a few sambos.
The outskirts of the bait ball thick with sambos.
A few pics of the average size fish caught for the day.
A few pics of some rods bent over.

Was a great day which we finished off by collecting a few abs for a feed.

Shaping up to be a good year
Shaping up to be a good year for the sambos, just gotta get rid of a few of those sharks up this way!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Was in the process of changing a reel from a jigging rod to the popping rod in the pic.
Have been trying to get a sambo on popper, but no luck as yet.
Had several sambos following a jigged fish up right to the surface but couldn't get them interested in a popper while they were up there.

Hey Brendo
have you tried those stickbaits or big unweighted softies? I'm sure they'll grab something if you get them fired up enough.

Got one little YTK on a near
Got one little YTK on a near by spot but beside that it was all sambos all roughly the same size.
Have caught good size ambas at the same spot before.
Would love to find some monster kings that I have heard exist down here. Seen a photo the other day of a 30kg+ YTK caught in the area.
