Go fishing, licence-free, on October 16, 2016 (48hr Ban Delay)
Submitted by Darren253 on Thu, 2016-09-22 10:49
Fisheries Minister Joe Francis today encouraged West Australians to join in and celebrate the inaugural national Gone Fishing Day on October 16, 2016.
Mr Francis said that, as an added incentive, recreational fishers in WA would not require a licence on the day, allowing people to try their hand at something they might not have tried before.

No, the ban is delayed by 48hrs.
"As a concession to the first-ever national Gone Fishing Day, the annual West Coast Bioregion demersal finfish closure, due to start on Saturday October 15, will be delayed for 48 hours. All other applicable closures will remain in force, including the existing closure on fishing for pink snapper in Cockburn and Warnbro sounds."

I don't get the point of the license not required part. Who has a boat and fishing gear but no fishing license that will benefit from this?

So one diver can take out 2
So one diver can take out 2 other divers with one licence between them and get there 24 crays?.......... hypothotheticly of course.( season opens on the 15th oct I believe).
mm fisheries must be chewing on there beards over that , In light of recent events, involving rule interpretation on the fly.
Less synicly , A great idea that the govt is encouraging and acknowledging that rec fishing is a big part of who we are in WA, and
the great family and social benefits it can bring , cant knock the idea on that front , and yes already had a look at long range forecast,
great sunny weather predicted! haha and there goes a flying pig!

I reckon a great idea, more people getting into or being shown what it's all about. More favourable minds on our side when the greens put their agenda's forward. If the weather's good I'll be out.
Love the West!
