Hooks
Special hooks made of brass with a stainless shaft through the centre, no barb and only about 120deg bend in them.Sometime you would tie a small bit of rag on it to help attract the fish.
As long as you pulled the pole directly back over your head you wouldn't hit youself or you mates with a fish. Used to connect the deck hose on to a sprinkler bar to spray behind the boat to keep the fish in close and biting. Bloody hard work.

360 tonnes!!!
only to refuel and steam straight back out. I must be getting soft, sad to see footage like that now. knowing japanese, russian, ect fleets are still working without quotas, no records and fueled by greed alone.
Intesting to see them lifting the school with livies. I reckon they'd pole the odd billy too!
