a good trip to montes
went on a trip to montes with blue lightening charters and had loads of fun, was a 5 day trip, the weather gods weren’t 2 nice to us but we made the most of it. Done some trawling in the mornings then a bottom bash in arvo when the wether died down .
i jigged most of the trip while the others used bait when bottom bashing. on the third day the jiggs went off. 8 out of the 9 coral trout caught were on jigs. plenty of fish caught on the trip from reds to coral trout to cobia, the list was endless.
the highlight for the trip was the 79cm coral trout i jigged up in 40m of water. my brother helped me land the fish and had a pic with the fish aswell, went poping for gt's but they wernt firing but the spots we tried looked prety awsome , might have to go back when the weather gets a bit hotter.
it was also good to see alot of whales around, counted atleast 80 of of them , one night we anchord up were the tender was and ther was a residential cod that lives around there that was prety cool, you could hand feed him.
i took over 900 photos, but ill just upload a couple of the fish i caught,

yeah no problems, i lost a couple of jigs ,,, well about 6 of them, mainly to sharks. i was just using mono leader, then i switched to 30cm of wire trace and found all i was loosing was the assist hook when i got sharked . was all a learning curve as i hadnt realy jigged before. but it was good fun =)

Top Trip
It might not have been as good as it could have been but you caught some quality fish for sure. Not a bad start to your jigging career. Some awesome pictures as well, great for the memories later on.

When you up with them in October mate?
Think we may be the trip before or after you.
We are heading out on the 21st. Hopefully the GTs are playing ball around then!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

The first trip - learning curve
Yep.....after last year which was awesome, the bar has been set pretty high, us southerners got a good look at tactics and techniques employed up that end of the country.....alot of what was learned is easily appliable down here to our local species.
October is slowly building up to the anticipation buzz I had last year before we left from cold miserableCanberra. (was bad having to come home, out of Canberra airport in Tees n shorts, pissing down rain and 8 degrees!)
Looking forward to seeing the boys again.
Hook'em......
