Submitted by Colin Hay on Mon, 2009-09-14 10:05
I have just received some info from Chevron that the $50 billion Gorgon LNG project has been officially given the go-ahead.
Hopefully it will create a lot of new work for Fishwrecked members.

put it this way
my mate is starting there in a couple of weeks. If it only got approved today, then I can tell you he wouldn't be mobilised and ready to start already - mining/oil/gas companies simply do not work that quickly.
Ever.

it was always going ahead,
it was always going ahead, same deal when Woodside started Pluto, the earth works had begun before it was announced.
Good to see it's finally going to happen and lets hope it lines the pockets of some of our fellow members to spend at the tackle store.
The quaratine to get things to Barrow Island and Varanus Is is bordering insane, it's going to put a lot of companies on the back foot if they don't know about it. lots of gear goes wrapped in plastic now already cleaned and stamped OK for transport.

transport of food is a verry
transport of food is a verry tricky business, At Kailis Bros they supply frozen and chilled food for Barrow isl and it is tripple checked , wrapped and then packed onto a truck which is then sealed for transport, and at random times the inspectors for the mining group will show up to check that all is good. its good to see the new project going ahead after all these years but im still not too sure how this is going to affect the island

Some Gorgon contracts info
KBR Joint Venture Awarded Gorgon Project EPCM Contract
CHEVRON Australia Pty Ltd has awarded the Kellogg Joint Venture Group (KJVG) an A$2.7 billion contract to Engineer, Procure and Construction Manage (EPCM) the LNG downstream and logistics portion of the multi-billion dollar Gorgon LNG Project.
KJVG, a KBR led Joint Venture consisting of partners JGC, Clough and Hatch, will execute and construct the LNG facility on Barrow Island, consisting of three, five million tonne per annum (MTPA) LNG trains, gas processing and treatment facilities, product storage and offloading, complete offsites, utilities and accommodations. The EPCM contract also includes a 300 terajoules per day domestic gas plant.
KBR said the design of the facility features improvements in greenhouse gas emissions performance including improved waste heat recovery and the provision of facilities for the injection of reservoir carbon dioxide deep into the subsurface.
The EPCM will utilise a modular construction strategy to minimise impact on the island during the construction phase and is being conducted from two main operating centers located in Perth and London, with support from global centres in US, Singapore, Indonesia and Japan.
KBR said the KJVG plans to utilise several fabrication yards across South East Asia and Australia to support the planned 250,000 tonnes of LNG modules.
The KJVG will also implement a comprehensive quarantine management plan for Barrow Island.
“Our continued involvement with this large, modularised grassroots LNG project demonstrates KBR’s commitment to providing our customers with leading LNG project execution and allows KBR to build on its LNG expertise and experience in Australia,” said John Rose, group president, KBR Hydrocarbons.
“We are committed to Chevron and its partners and look forward to working closely with Chevron to ensure the successful execution of the Gorgon Project.”
KJVG, formed as a partnership between KBR E&C Australia Pty Ltd, JGC Corporation, Clough Projects Australia Pty Ltd and Hatch Associates Pty Ltd Group, completed the updated onshore facilities Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) and execution planning earlier this year.

Jay, They have been operating an oil field on Barrow for
well over 40 years. The oil field activities have a much larger foot print that the area set aside for the Gorgon LNG and domestic gas plant.
