Honda 200hp water test

Well I have been a 2 stroke guy as long as I can remember, and have not had the chance to go out on a boat with a four stroke, Menopaul has the Etec225hp and it is a very quiet motor compared to most two strokes. We took the "Re Lisa" down the swan today for the water test on the new motor and it blew me away .The old motor was a 175 evenrude and did 34 knots, but was noisey. The Honda four stroke can hardly be heard when idling and at wot you can hold a conversation over the noise .It was very quiet and we got a top speed of 44 knots, with a full tank of fuel 210 litres I Was very impressed and would recommend anyone looking at buying a new motor to get out on a boat with a four stroke, before buying a two stroke and see for yourself .I will do a couple of trips and get some fuel consumption figures, Am one happy little camper. Thanks Malcolm and Ryan down at Men On Boats for your service, it was well worth the wait.

Thats a pretty quick boat. Just gotta wait for the weather to play ball and you can test her out in some real conditions Laughing

Is the motor on the boat now, or was it a presale test?

Mate I only put the throtal

Tue, 2009-09-15 17:05

Mate I only put the throtal down slowly and she was off, no problem getting on the plain was as quick as the old motor from standing start. probabily a little slower than an etec but not by much.

converted myself not long ago

Tue, 2009-09-15 17:30

but only 60 motor.....

but still a remarkable difference in noise and fuel consumption. lost very little "out of hole" speed but does not bother me.

the boat definitely plains better, and through the whole power range, rather than constantly working the throttle.

would not go back to a conventional 2 stroke

hey paul i must have spoken

Tue, 2009-09-15 17:55

hey paul

i must have spoken to ryan about your boat today when i picked mine up

i'm having a few probs getting my 175 honda on my 6 meter haines to get anywhere near 40 knots. (which i reckon it should)

at 35 knots at mo so raised motor up another hole.

get motor height right then re look at prop.

they are a lovely quiet motor though. highly recommended

good to hear paul

Tue, 2009-09-15 17:56

its good to hear it turned out better than expected paul, i was a two stroke convert and especially like the Etecs but on my present rig with the Yammy 4st , yes i was suitable impressed, the 4st take a little longer to get going thats why it helps to put a few extra HPs on the back when upgrading, but when cruising is where the 4st come on the the scene with quietness.

Tue, 2009-09-15 19:07

i guess it might get to that speed 4 times a year weather permiting ,i'll still be geting around at the 24-28 knot which is comfortable.it will take a little geting use to .I did notice the waterline of the boat was down 10mm to normal with the extra kg's of the Honda also a full tank of fuel

Yup, quick for sure! Great you're pleased with it mate!

You'd expect perhaps a lil more when run in? (As Tll said).

What's the revs at (current WOT) Paul? (Or where you too busy peeling the (wind) tears out of your eyes as you peeked over the screen?  LaughingTongue out
