40cm, on the way home in 160m, pulled up along side a floating ruby snapper with its tail missing, wasn't sure how fresh it was tho - sharked

That's disappointing about the gemfish, they have a reputation as being good on the chew. I had a feed of nannygai last night and I reckon they're hard to beat.
Did the knifejaws bite through the assists on the jigs?

back in sa ive got a nanygai spot in 50 metres that produces a seemingly endless supply. must be to do with water temp not depth ???

funny thing was, I was with a novice buddy
( gee I miss my deckies) he was using my new jig and outfished me, he only used hand winding, no elec reel...
