How the heck did you come up

Thu, 2012-05-17 23:28

How the heck did you come up with that Chris?

Going by the fisheries length to weight conversion chart, 130cm should be smack bang on 18kg.

0.011355 x Length (cm) to the power of 2.94. So if you caught a Mulloway of 130cm, using the formula you would calculate 0.011355 x 130 to the power of 2.94. So you would get 18.628 KG. Give or take a few grams.

Thu, 2012-05-17 23:50

The charts I use are south African ones, they use them as official weights for competitions so they have to be accurate, they are averaged off over 50 fish with the highest average weight used. ( they have been within 1kg with all off my mulloway) where the fisheries actual charts are taken off of far fewer fish and not all are ocean fish some of there stats are for fish in captivity which are not accurate compared to the south African ones.

Cheers Chris.
I think you are pretty close!

Anyway, had some for dinner last night and it was very tasty. Firm but soft flesh and almost as good as my snapper a few weeks back.

Interesting

Fri, 2012-05-18 14:55

Wow that length to weight thing is interesting, I posted a pic of my first mulloway on here a little while ago, it was about 120cm long and an old fella weighed it on his scales after i caught it, pulled them down to 10 kg!! Got me thinking that maybe his scales were buggered, I thought it weighed more like 15kg but didn't bother weighing it when I got home.

Chris what would my fish would have weighed according to your chart?
