I’m running the gp1971f as my sounder/ back up plotter, they are a awesome mfd all the usual furuno sounder goodness 1kw capable ect wireless radar. Love the mirror control app/function hook the iPad up and view and control the unite wirelessly from down the back of the boat.

Transducer will determine
Transducer will determine what depth it will operate in not the unit itself.
whack a 1kw on it and you will be fishing in the 400's no problem.

started with the airmar 600w transducer that it came with happily read bottom at 160mtrs at 10/12knts running 1kw now been to 400mtrs no worries all comes down to transducer placement and tuning.

Had a GP1971F
I'm boatless now, but on my old 7m ...
I upgraded my Furuno FCV582L to the GP1971F unit.
From what I could see/detirmine from my research, these GP1x71F units have the same sounding/technical specs as their more expensive and popular FCV588 cousins.
I was still skeptical about the touch screen and how I would go in bumpy conditions trying to control the unit but also found that ok.
If I get another boat and need to shop for another sounder (or combo unit) I would happily go get one again.
I simply used my old existing 600W transducer, but would recommend a 1kW.
The 600W served me fine, but I did lose some sounding at speed (20knts+ on bumpy water, fine on calm days) and I only used it in less than 100m.
