gps format

hopefully someone here can shed some light on the gps format for me.

my marks in my gps are displayed like this (navman and my lowrance)

S 32.00.000  E 115.00.000

which i always understood as degree,minute,seconds ????????

i was given a couple of marks from a freind and they are missing the last digit on the end.

S 32.00.00  E 115.00.00

i was told that they are in a differant format????

when entering them into my gps, it puts a 0 on the end, after having a look at them today, i am thinking they are out abit, becuse i have seen better ground in the dessert.

i am sure someone on here knows whats happening!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE

RON

you can have coordinates in

Fri, 2011-01-21 18:45

you can have coordinates in degrees, minutes and decimal minutes (go up to .999 then ticks over to a new minute)

or

degrees, minutes and seconds (go up to .59 then ticks over to a new minute), just like a clock

The one with seconds will look like 32 14' 45.0"

where decimal minutes will look 32 14.750

To "convert" them, change the unit on your GPS to whichever one the cord is in then enter it as a waypoint, then change the unit back to how you like it and the coord will be automatically converted. There are also numerous computer chart programs that will do it for you, and I'm sure Google will do the same thing.

At the risk of sounding like a pinger you can PM it to me and I'll convert it for you
Tim

yeah and your GPS is displaying degrees, minutes and decimal minutes.

Or you can divide the "seconds" by 60 then times 100 to convert it to decimal minutes

Steve you're gonna have to wait, Brad has got something planned last I heard. Still sorting the photos too but a short description would be average to ok fishing and fantastic food, location and people, we just didn't get the hot bite we were after. Best day was 15 GT's to 28kg, worst was no GT's. Saw enough to go back though, we just didn't get the timing right but still had a awesome trip with plenty of laughs.

Entering marks

Fri, 2011-01-21 19:17

The only way I load marks is to do it via the cursor. Move the cursor and zoom in to the exact spot then hit enter or what evr your Gps system works on. Doing it that way gives you an idea on where its located in relation to your other marks.
