I have the tracker 5500 and mine plays up sometimes. I just wiggle the small plug around, found that one twists up a lot when u screw it up( if u remove the unit each time). I take care now when I do it up so it doesn't twist, just have to hold the cable and twist the gold bit on the end otherwise the whole cable turns. Seems to have stopped the problem most of the time but sometimes I have to undo it and do it up again. Funnily though it never drops out once it's connected.
Might not be the same issue but worth checking.

As lurcha says or give the plug on lead and head unit a clean with a tooth brush. Go to gps on your menue and click restart gps, see oif that helps. It does for me when the unit wont pick up satelites.

I have the same unit and the original external antenna started to struggle picking up satelittes, then eventually stopped finding them at all, so got another new Navman one which lasted for about 3 years and it started to play up to taking AGES to track the satelittes too. Funnily at about that time someone on here(FWrecked) was having the same dramas with his and someone else recommended just getting an aftermarket one of EBAY to suit your model. So i did just that also. Works 100% all the time everytime. Tracks onto the satelittes way quiker than the original did. All for around $7 also. So cheap i ordered two just so i have a spare that i keep in the boat!!!!!!!

Here is the same one i bought

I just bought a spare antenna from ebay for my tracker aswell { woulkdnt pick up satellites } but while waiting for it to arrive and as usual with good weather for the weekend  coming up I went to Jaycar and bought a new plug for the old antennna { was $4.50 I think} .Easy as to do just like any co-ax cable and worked straight up and been great ever since !!!
