Protected species. If you do

Protected species.

If you do hook one while snapper fishing (and it doesnt instantly bust you off) no chance of stopping a GWS on the snapper gear, probably wouldn't even notice it's hooked.

We had a 4.5m white bite the boat last year,

If you want to play with one,.... good luck, your going to need it. they will do some damage to your boat.

I may be wrong....

....but it's not just illegal to take protected species, it's also illegal to intentionally target them in the first place...although you could say you were after tigers or hammerheads...

Wal was there a reason it bit the boat?

Did you just pull a fish up it was chasing?

Some people would like to see one swim under their boat, i'm not one of them =)

Probably have the Greens pull

Tue, 2013-08-27 16:40

Probably have the Greens pull up along side you as the boat's being shredded by a great white saying "It's endangered, don't hurt it!"

or

"If it breaks it's teeth on your fibreglass/alloy we'll be pressing charges"

We had 3 pinks in the boat, not fighting one at the time.

18' swiftcraft, white hit the bottom towards the stern, lifted the boat about 1m and pushed it 2m sideways, left 2 teeth in the hull.

The next day tomo found that it had cracked the deck were it joins the hull, crack was about 1.3m long.

love to see 1

Tue, 2013-08-27 17:50

I would love to see 1 from the safety of the boat don't want to see the inside of 1 but lol, also just as scary are whales they are great from about 150 meters away but when they start to breach about 5 meters from your boat you start to feel incredibly small

I reckon after 2-3hours of draging my 25ft Bertram around he'll be floating belly up he wouldn't have the energy to bite the boat but don't think I could do it to such a beast tho

unless you have a game chair

Tue, 2013-08-27 18:23

unless you have a game chair on your berty you would have to fight it stand up and my bet is after 2 to 3 hours you might be the one belly up but on the deck , nothing to be embarrassed about but a good size sambo leaves me belly up after 15 minutes

4kg of bang and a harpoonin

Wed, 2013-08-28 08:31

4kg of bang and a harpoon

in the old days when we still caught them( i was a very young deckie), 3 44 gallon drums attached  to a 12mm custom made hi tensile hook, 10 mm chain, witha  buttock of horse or donkey on did the trick, saw them drag the 3 drums under more than once, also saw them attacking the drums tailslapping them when the chain was too long( sometimes bursting the drum)

we regularly caught them in the 4- 5.5m size 700 -1000 kg roughly

good luck on holding them on stand up gear   i would prefer for them to leave me alone

I've watch a few shark docos

Wed, 2013-08-28 08:41

I've watch a few shark docos on foxtel were the researchers are targeting the Gws  to put tags and that on to them  and there using big hooks attached to steel cables  then onto looks to be 16mm rope  then as they start fighting they attach the big Bouys onto the rope to help tire the shark out sometimes upto 8 big Bouys  are needed to slow the shark down with a good say 400m plus rope I'd say so sure does take a fair bit to stop them
