ground advice

We've had the 5.2 genesis for 4 months now and have  enjoyed some good days fishing out deep. I'm getting used to reading the sounder which makes fishing a lot easier knowing what your looking at. Been fishing around the south west bank mainly and done pretty well, never really cleaned up but most times we have come home with one or two duhies and a few BA or snapper. Last few trips we have tried out deeper in 80m found a few good spots that have produced but its hit and miss one day they'r biting Hot 10kg duhie, double hookups on duhies bust offs then next week can't even get a bite (thats fishing i guess). Although its a bit annoying like yesterday when u travel 40km out for one snapper and two undersized fish then have to cop it from the deckies that they didnt catch any fish I'm just glad that the outboard isnt a four stroke so I cant hear their complaints for the 40km trip home. So I'm thinking I should try and find some spots a little closer less driving less fuel and more time to fish. Also my girlfriend finds it a bit hard fishing the 80m shes talking of bying a electric reel but I told her I wouldnt take her out on her boat if she bought that.Laughing

Had a quick sound  around about twenty km from point perron on the way back in on sunday but it seems its all flat bottom even when I did find the harder ground it was still really flat and no life on it no weed no coral no fish it was like it was a desert. Compared to what we fish and see on the sounder out arround the swbank it will take me a lot of driving around to find some good ground in closer.

Can any one give some advice or point me in the right dirrection for finding some ground in a bit closer. Is there spots like SWbank where the sounder shows coral caves etc in closer. I know just behind five fathom has some good ground but thats only in the 20s once u get past there its flat. Whats the fishing like between Rockingham and Mandurah like is there any deeper reefs down that way. Any advice would be much appreciated. And if anyone wants to swap some gps coordinates I have a tonne of them for all around the SWbank many of which I have never fished personally

the fishing is harder out

the fishing is harder out deeper but instead of an electric reel just go for a reef master or reef queen with super braid on it, Sandy has a lot of trouble in the deep and finds it a lot easier with the winch, i have never fished out behind the swbank but going north there is some verry good ground from 75 to 95 mtrs, we have got some good fish from around that area but you just got to look for them

It is a long way out there but from what you have said ,about the fish you have caught, mate your doing ok .There are some guys that don't get into good fish .As for the deckies getting pissed ,find new ones as thats fishing some days you get them and others you get zip. I don't fish down that way so can give no advice .good luck with the hunt..

where to go

Theres not to many hot spots left that any good fisho will let you have the waypoints to unfortunatley it trial and travel around perth and the best thing to do on your travels is go abit slower and watch the sounder full time in case the smallest lump or bottom matter changes , we are not lucky enough to have huge reef or island structures around perth that havent been hit previously , by your past comments you are catching some fish and its a matter of trying to improve on this, fish in my boat fish are a bonus , i just enjoy being out on the water and away from work, when my deckie winges its only because he had to pull the anchor so many times  so we can try another spot. watch and learn the sounder to its max capabilitys and only fish whenthey are showing.

m8 if yer doin dat good on da swank why bother elsewhere...it's been flogged mate. heaps of ground from ffb-50's, seek and u shall find, just don't ping as crew get pretty pissed about that. put in the hours as crew say, cruise a bit slower with eyes peeled on sounder and u will find some gems (maybe)
