Hamelin

Hit up Hamelin Bay Yesterday.

Southerlies were blowing a gale and vis was average.

Managed a cracker of a red snapper which was promptly taken by a very large bronzie, biggest ive seen and showed a small amount of interest in me, but seemed to be after my fish. So swam holding my fish for quite some time, knocked off a big queenie and a sambo. When I was about 100m from the boat id let the fish go on the end of my rope and i started to get towed backwards again. Popped my head up to see a lot of white wash and my dive buddies standing on the boat with their mouths wide open. Pulled myself towards the stringer and lost only my sambo and a few skippy. Queenie had some impressive bite marks on it but the $20 SD Card I bought off Ebay seems to have sh*t itself. Absolutely spewing!!!!!!!!!

No dhuies sighted for 4hrs in the water, 8-14m. Did see a smallish nurse shark moping about the bottom.

And after the shark sighting I was 1 dive buddie down Sealed

On another note, does anyone know where to get cheap brand name SD cards?

Hammy bay

Sun, 2009-12-20 13:51

SD cards  most electrical stores sell them.

Dived hammy bay myself last week and ended up with 3 nice big crays and 10 abs. Took the gun down but only seen a couple of smallish black arse cod ,I thought i might see a dhufish or 2 but nothing was spotted. Dived in the bay as the southerly winds were making diving Foul bay side pretty ugly.

The surge was the norm down that way . Added 1 1/2 weights to the belt to hold bottom.

Cheers Feral!

Yeah, I realise they can be bought anywhere, but most places sell them for $100++ and if someone knew of somewhere with cheap ones i'd go for it.

I usually put in around 3 dives. from 8m-14m I guess. Have some great spots in 5-6m that ive pulled dhuies and queenies off.

Lucky to get some crays, I wasn't really looking for them but my mates were and they came back with nothing, might not have been deep enough. And yeah, would not bother with black-ass with the new limits, i'd swap a big queenie, snapper or dhuie over a little black-ass any day,.

I do a lot of SCUBA and I dabble in freediving.

Also starting to get right  back into fishing too. Basically if the wiffe lets me out and I am not at work then I am at sea. And then I work at sea too....

Love the ocean

Hamlin Bay

Wed, 2009-12-23 12:11

In the early 70s was my favorite place, and Augusta, and spots between,a couple of mates and I would swim from the boat ramp out to the first smaller rock (the Calf) then the larger on the Cow and then around the Island,we got she its loads of jumbo crays, and good fish,we also lost our fish, once too a large bity of unknown type, but it took the bloody lot,not far from Hamlin is Cosey Conner and Stinky Bay both are excellent for spearing,as the water is generally clearer than Hamlin, but you are wise to have a fish float. In about 1970 the State spear champions ships were on and a large bity was known to swim through the channel at Cosey between the shore and the first reef so a couple of top notch spearos went in and removed it from the comp,as it was seen the only safe alternative due to the number of spearos who were going in,and the memory of Robert Bartel on of the top WA spearos was still fresh in many minds, jersey

Thanks Jersey, love hearing about times gone by.

Im guessing Bartel was taken by a shark??

These days you'd be lucky to find anything around the islands as it cops an absolute hammering during the hoiday season. And off the holiday season.
