hard day at the office

Looked like being a great day but after the sun got up the wind came .Which made for some choppy conditions very hard to hold the boat on the ground .The dhuies were still there but were not on the bite like last week still ended up a good day with 4x dhuies 3 released 6x baldies 4x snapper 3 released 1x KG YES KG not that offen we get them, I think we were all more excited to get the KG than the other fish .Seen a whale doing some tricks .breaching and fin slapping .We did have a slight misshap when the boat got around 150lt off water in it from reversing into the chop and the bilge wasn't working  A quick fix it job and away see went .Long day but still a good one .

was waiting... paul

nice nice, i reckon if you dropped the hooks and downsized you would of killed the kg,s mate, but awesome catch , baldies and dhuies again, we had the same thing not long ago, cple dhuies and kg,s we downsized and used cutly tentacles and absolutley smashed the kg,s ended up with 7 or so, thumpers, dropped a lot of them on heavy gear,

good report and after ur early post was looking forward to your read, well done, the baldies seem to plague up in perth, hard to find south only caught  3 in yrs on cavey ground,

A1 catch mate, well done

does any1 know the diff between the baldies colour?? pink and blue?

The light coloured baldies

Mon, 2011-06-06 18:45

The light coloured baldies did come from very light coral bottom and the others from hard lumpy ground .not 100% sure if that is the reason .but sounds good.as for a hard day the motor worked all day in reverse.holding the spot .We found left in reverse with the wind from the SE and the tide from south we drifted very slowly north .Will have a crack next time out and down size the hooks for the day and see what happens .have tryed before but only got wrasse.

Try those crabs Paul

Tue, 2011-06-07 09:01

Just add the crabs to the bottom oif your rig on a smallish el-cheapo jig head (below the sinker) and you will continue to get the good fish and pick up a few KGs and other species on the crab bait.

So far I haven't had a wrasse hit them, just everything else.

That way you don;t have to downsize everythiing and still be in with a chance at other species. Only drawback is increased snags, but just use lighter line and you will only lose the crab and el-cheapo jig head.

You rarely give away KGs????

Tue, 2011-06-07 12:46

More like never in my book!!!!!!!!

Great catch Paul. All quality but in my order, KG, Baldies, Dhu and snap. But I would be happy with a snap alone!!!

Love the look off the improving fishing down there.

Nice effort and decent fish

Tue, 2011-06-07 13:52

Nice effort and decent fish mate good work!

can some one please explain to me the catch limits situation these days, my understanding is that even with multiple fishing licenses on the boat, a boat can still only take 2 of the 5 vunerable demericals? is this true? Im not certainly having a dig at your catch paul, but i have just started finding good ground, which always end up with at least 4 -5 boldies, but we always only ever keep two, regardless of the fishing licenes on board. Ive looked on the department of fisheries site and this just confuses me. From my understanding on there site you technically could only have one boldie and a dhu..... as i stated before im not having a dig at your catch more after someone to explain a better understanding of catch limits for me. Cause as of this stage im just confused as to how many of what i can and cant take?

easy as

Tue, 2011-06-07 14:56

its 2 demersals on the Cat 1 list (has more than just the V5 fish as well ) per person with only one of those being a Dhu fish. But  ...... a total BOAT limit of 2 dhuies

There were 4 fishing that day. the KG is cat 2. We could've had another Dhu instead of the pinkie or a Baldie...... hang on ... we did ..... but  Paul is sooo bloody fast with that Tag kit and straight over the side .... he thinks its Hillllarious lol

I thought you liked watching

Tue, 2011-06-07 15:53

I thought you liked watching the dhuies swim away happy and free .shit jody it was only 8kg baby .you need to lift your game and catch me a bigger one then you can keep it .as for bag limits yes 4 persons on board all with  licenses.2 demersals each  person.two of which can be dhuies .as the only demersal with a boat limit is the dhuie.
