Headlamp recommendations

 Hey all,

Am after a decent headlamp and was wondering what others had/recommended

I like the look of: Led Lenser H7 (180m max distance, 170 lumens, 75 hour battery assume on lowest setting)

Black Diamond Storm (70m max, 100 lumens, 36-200 hour battery, waterproof) I like the idea of being fully waterproof

anyways if anyone has one of these and can comment or recommend others that would be great, trying to keep under $100 something solid with good distance and flood.

Cheers

Mat

I have both he H14R and the

I have both he H14R and the black diamond ICON (top of the blackdiamond range) and i would Rate the H14R 100x better. but also more expensive.

if Your willing to settle for a blackdiamond i can sell you my ICON for $50 rrp is $129. (but its the model before the current one i believe)

as with waterproofing, yes the storm is fully waterproof to -20m, but thats not in sea water as the salt will damage the lamp. most headlamps are showerproof anyway. ( as i was told By the sea to summit rep who is the WA distributor of Blackdiamond goods.)

I know this because i sell them at my work :) lol

I have 2x Black Diamond

Tue, 2012-04-03 22:13

I have 2x Black Diamond Storms and 2x Icons. I find that the Storm is brighter than the Icon(and obviously a smaller unit with no battery pack on the back) but i do find it chews the 4 AAA batteries quick compared to the older Black Diamond Spot(not waterproof). It will be really bright for a few hours then it will dull and stay like this for many many hours, which is still ok but no where near as bright as in the first few hours of new batteries.. Have actually dropped the storm in the ocean whilst wading for crabs in the shallow of busselton at night. Didnt get any saltwater into it at all. Mind you the waterproof seal can be a bit tight to separate when changing batteries.

Overall i like it because its light, very bright(i have an endless supply of AAA batteries though), tough(have dropped so many times on rocks but no damage yet) and very waterproof in the rain as i have spent many many nights out in the rain with it on my head and as yet no water ingression.

Havent had any personnel experience with LED Lenser headlights sorry, but have seen plenty people using them, and from what i have seen they are probably brighter than the Black Diamonds i have.

I got a fenix HP11 a few weeks ago and am very happy with the performance. It claims 277 lumens and comes with a diffuser to spread the beam. Runs off 4 aa's and has all the flashing modes etc. Paid 55 bucks off ebay.

Lenser H7

Thu, 2012-05-24 09:41

I have had two of these H7 lights in the past couple of months, with the first one the on / off button would not work the light was stuck on, which was lucky because i didnt open the packaging until i was at the beach on a weekends fishing/camping.

I got it replaced and after two months same problem again except the light dimmer stopped working also, so back to the shop today. Should i upgrade to the H14? Are they a much better light? Has anyone else had this problem with the H7?
