Hi guys. Iam looking at buying a Hema 7 track navigation unit but been told that I could down load an AP for my iPad for around $ 150. Plus I need a GPS type receiver for my IPad for when it's out of phone service range .
Can anyone recommend whether this is a better way to go and which GPS receiver unit I should purchase .

I use Hema maps on IPad mini. The iPads that accept a SIM card have an in-built gps. The iPads that don't accept a SIM card, don't have an in-built gps.
You don't need to have a SIM card in the iPad, as long as it will accept the sim.
I have used my iPad with Hema along the Gibb River Road, Port Warrender, Oodandatta track without any dramas.
