to the site. ask as many questions as you like; thats what the site is for and most will share information.

to answer your questions you may need to indicate exactly what type of fishing you concentrate on, what species......

basically morning and afternoon the best with an incoming tide, look for structure at your chosen beach. this can be reef or gutters or holes etc. learning to "read" the beach is key to finding the best spot to fish. it's not hard just takes time and patience (can explain further if you need).

rigs are fairly standard and a paternoster rig is an "ol favourite". if you are lost on the terminology then just ask. this will catch most fish and is a good starter. Can use a simple running rig also . tends to sit on bottom obviously but great for flathead, whiting. tarwhine etc......

can even use a float with the bait suspending say 30cm below......

no problem throwing lure from a beach either......

where do you fish?

regards and welcome again

i fish down in the mandurah

Fri, 2009-01-02 09:28

i fish down in the mandurah area, ive tried the dawseville and dont reallt like it,i dont think ive ever targeted a particular fish, just wanna catch anything i can eat really,i can read the beaches to some extent as i am an avid bodyboarder aswell so i know how to seek out the gutters and channels as i use them to get me back out in the swell, there is plenty of reef around but i always seem to get snagged on it,usally when i go out beach fishing ive just cast an unweighted mullie out,

Not from mandurah

but I know secret harbour does produce mulloway. better beach structre i would think

this time of year would have thought herring and tailor were around. best early/late light not middle of the day. some berley always helps. if you keep busting your rig on the reef fish to the sides a lillte and not directly on top of use a float......

salmon run your way but a liilte early for the season yet, best around easter....

have you tried the cut, plenty of fish move through there.

always recommend using beach structure and if you can read them target gutters/holes that have an opening on the seaward side, allows for th movement of fish etc.

Are you familiar with the surf paternoster rig. You can pretty much fish for most of the different species that inhabit the beaches by changing your hook sizes up or down.
It is always good to have burley with you and make sure your bait is the best you can get.
If you can find someone with a 4wd, White Hills is a great place for surf fishing in your area.

easy rig

Fri, 2009-01-02 10:06

google it as i can't draw on this site.....ha ha

sinker on bottom with a short lenght of line say 40cm.....tied to  a three way swivel. top of swivel is mainline. angle swivel has lenght of line say 20cm to hook. adjust hook size to suit fish...

the line for the sinker should be less strenght than mainline so if you snag up all you loose is the sinker, not the whole rig.

the above lenght is only for ilistrative purpose and ca be varied accordingly. also not restricted to the single hook and you ca use two with two diff hook size.

Dhui here a few links

The most common set-up is to have a 3 way swivel with a longer piece of leader line tied to one eye on the swivel that ends in a loop knott. You use the loop to attach you sinker - in that way you can chase the size of yourt sinker to match the coditions.
A second, shorter piece of leader is tied to a second swivel eye. You attach your hooks the end of that piece of line. Most commonly gang hooks from 3/0 to 5/0 are used in the surf here.
The third eye of the swivel is then tied to the main line.

Many people here make up these rigs before going fishing snd wind them onto pieces of cut-up pool noodles to keep them in place.

Hope that helps,
