HH 680 Patriot v HH 675 Enclosed V CC 685 Explorer

Has anyone been out in all 3 of these boats? From all the research I've done you can't go wrong with any of them it's just the price you want to pay (Patriot now an obsolete model). Question is deck space, are all comparable? I've only been on the Patriot and from pictures alone it looks to have the smallest deck space compared to the other 2.

I've been on the CC 685 and seen the HH at the boat shows. For me i would go the CC for deck space.

 I've owned the 680 Haines

Tue, 2017-10-24 15:14

I've owned the 680 Haines Encore (same hull as patriot) and been out on a CC 685 a few times. Haines definately rides better but certainly nothing wrong with the ride of the CC. The CC definately has better deck space and looks to be nicer finish. I think the HH675 looks to be the best of both worlds but dont have any experience in one.

I would hazard a guess the price will dictate if the boatshow was anything to go by, these clowns at CC wanted 175k+ for a 685 single rig! the equivelent HH675 was much cheaper.

If I were you, i'd also be considering the Caribbean 2300 with single 300 yami. No more expensive than the HH675 from what i've seen. Apparently it's also within the legal towing range.

Thanks for the feedback. I've looked at the Caribbean but kind of discounted them given their old design. I base this on zero knowledge but just assumed the newer desinged boats/hulls would be better performers as technology and research has advanced. Happy to be wrong on that.

Newer Haines build quality

Tue, 2017-10-24 15:55

Newer Haines build quality has certainly gone downhill over the last few years. They certainly have a nice finish with lots of nice little bits but not near as solidly built as a carribean.

How long is recent?

I had a 2014 HH 650R, absolutely nothing wrong with the build quality.

Not much is new

Tue, 2017-10-24 19:42

If you look closely at the hulls, I think you’ll find that there aren’t many new fibreglass hull designs around.

Both Caribbean and HH a fair

Tue, 2017-10-24 18:26

Both Caribbean and HH a fair bit lighter than Northbank per metre. A lot of boat for the money with the 650 (680 loa).

I've fished from the Patriot which I think is about 2004-2006 a few times and it is very good in crap conditions. Not much fishing room (3 absolute max) and still very exxy for what they are.

CC

Tue, 2017-10-24 19:14

I have the 685 explorer and am a bit of a fan.

I had a look at the Haines at the boat show, and much prefer the layout of the CC.

I havent been on a haynes though.

Mate has a 685 CC, beautiful

Tue, 2017-10-24 19:38

Mate has a 685 CC, beautiful boat well finished but not real hard core and a bit of a light ride. A great family boat that does most things well, but pretty Exxy.

Been in the 650 Haynes Offshore in crap conditioons, very good ride, but Patriot has no room and 650R worse ride and Exxy.

Ended up up getting the Boston Conquest 235 when USdollar was crap, great boat and more substantial than the 685 or 650 but no good now as US dolllar too Exxy.

I would go CC685 if you want something pretty, a 650R if you are harder core Fisho. Both way too Exxy but then again, so are 7 m tinnies, and I would have either of these over any Ali.

 Seen a brand new signature

Wed, 2017-10-25 20:53

Seen a brand new signature with no stringers YEP no stringers whatsoever from factory... insane I know. Bloke bought it new then 3 years later found cracks starting to appear in deck. Lifted floor and found no stringers installed

(whole hull had been flexing and deck started to crack)...

quick internet search will find a local ship right who posted pics of before and after he installed stringers....

 Build quality and finish are

Thu, 2017-10-26 10:13

Build quality and finish are outstanding on the CC. Have a look under the gunnels if you want to see how a boat should be put together. Nicolls brothers have been building CC for many years and are constantly refining. expensive, yes, but people buy them for a reason.

I was choosing between a Patriot and a CC - the Patriot rides a tad better but after seeing some pics of Patriots burying their nose I preferred the bigger flared bow on the CC

Definitely add the caribbean

Thu, 2017-10-26 13:22

Definitely add the caribbean 2300 onto the list, raymond hunt hull design, very well built boats. It will ride as good as anything for the size.

The haines 680 hull has been around for years and it a very good alrounder.

whats your budget?

Doesn't sound good for the Signature. Don't want to go more than about $120k if I can. Key requirements are the deck space for 3 divers or fishers, transom door access (don't like the way the Northbank comes in over the engine but like the look of the Northbank boat), toilet for the missus, fibreglass, about 6.8m, 250 - 300 hp, hardtop or enclosed, towing under 3.5T fully loaded. Starting to like the look of the Caribbean 2300 I must say.....

Used?

Fri, 2017-10-27 01:52

I assume you are looking used? Not much chance of finding anything new with your specs for $120K.

if budget was not restricted the new HH 700 looks like a perfect fit, but you’d be taking much closer to $200k.

My mate has the HH 680

Thu, 2017-10-26 22:15

My mate has the HH 680 Offshore. It feels like I'm in a rocket ship when he opens her up through the chop. Seriously comfortable ride with more than enough deck space for three to fish one one side.

Basic Reef Runner package looks bloody good

Fri, 2017-10-27 17:36

www.boatsonline.com.au/boats-for-sale/new/power-boats/caribbean-reef-runner/162508

Don't think you could go past that basic package they are offering for value--costs less than a 580 signature.  Ask Darren235 how his is going, posted up the Caribbean Reef Runner thread a while back in this sub-forum.

50hrs Since May and I've spent 7 weeks overseas

"I'm luv'in it"

Best decision I ever made. I compared both the RR and the 2300 and whilst the 2300 was clearly bigger, i couldn't justify the extra cost and extra HP required for the additional space. I’ve gone with the Merc 150 and can get 40knots on the river and run to Rotto with the family and gear at 20knots for less than $10 in fuel. I think with the new raised screen (mine is standard) Caribbean have this classic nailed. However, if size matters to you it is only a 6.4m boat with a fairly narrow front end, but performs like a much bigger boat IMO!

Happy to take you out for a run at a suitable time. Resale is also sensational... I’ve see 10year old reefies sell for 75% of the new price.

I keep going back to that Boatsonline page

Sat, 2017-10-28 06:07

I'm due for retirement soon, going back to work part time, and a chunk of super just may have to be drawn down to get me a boat to "see me out" .

And after just spending 4 days in often crap conditions on a 615 barcrusher, I can certainly cross them off the list. Forever.

Cheers Darren, I just might take you up on that offer. Decisions decisions......Just been reading Darren's Caribbean thread, good food for thought there. Back to the drawing board and redo bank numbers me thinks!
