Hi i am new to jetski fishing

Hi I am new to Jet Ski fishing and just getting my ski decked out.

I have made a stainless steel 80L eski frame with 3 rod holders, I have a 6ft casting rod set up but am looking for a boat rod. (i will upload some photos of my set up soon)

I have a hand held Garmin GPS and am looking for a Fish Finder.

I would like to know what people recommend for a boat rod and a fish finder.

I am also looking to see if anyone wants someone to go out fishing with or if anyone wants to let me into a jet ski fishing group.

I am near Hillarys but I normally use the ocean reef boat ramp.

Hi a_werty, Welcome to the forum. You are most welcome to come to the Calamari Classic if you want to. You can tag along with me if you like. You only need a light 5-8 foot rod and small reel for this. The $20 - $40 combo outfits will work if you don't have anything for squidding yet. As per your post it seems you have a light rod already.

I can help you with advise and have done a few posts on FishWrecked forum and also JetSkiJunkys Forum. Check it out all the posts under JetSkifishing WA, you will get a fair amount of info from them. I also have a PDF I made up to give some guidelines and ideas.   I use a HDS 5 Combo GPS/Fishfinder on my ski and it works great. This is an area you do not want to start of cheap as you will be disappointed. Rather save up and get a decent fish finder GPS combo unit from the start.

For the Ski I just use Shakespeare UGLY stiks. They are more that sufficient. One heavy duty rod, 5'6" with 15-24kg line and the other is a 6'6" with 4-8kg line. The latter is the rod I use the most. Then I also have some very light gear for squidding, catching KGW and bait fish.

I can send the PDF file to you, just PM me your email address.

Best Regards

If you search the site re- fish finders you will get a lot of posts and discussions etc on fish finder combo units. Unfortunately I do not know enough about the hummingbird to advise about it. What I do know is that the guys in NZ use mostly Ray Marine. I use Lowrance HDS 5 and some of the other guys here also use these two models as described with no problems at all. At the end of the day is will come down to personal choice. If you don't get the answers try posting your question in the general form and call it something like "Need assistance in buying a sounder GPS Combo". You will get a lot of help very quickly from the guys. Everyone on this site is very helpful and will give you good advise.

Hope this helps.

regards JR
