How do you jig

So, I'm starting to fish without bait. I have a few fanky jigs, and no real idea on how to use them.
Do you let it hit the bottom then flat out retrieve? Sit it a meter or so off the bottom and bounce it up and down?
im kinda lost with it all.

mmake it nice and slow. real
mmake it nice and slow. real flighty action - twitch, double twitch, work it medium a couple meters up and drop it back down. slow twitch.
Ive hooked some fish by simply vibrating the rod along the bottom.

Awesome. Thanks guys. Here I was thinking I should be using my tld 20 oh reel. Looks like I should be using my snapper outfit. 6-8kg rod and 4000 reel.
