How'd you go today?

Headed out today with a couple of mates from woodies point at 0800 ish thismorning. Drifted the weed beds between woodmans point and south mole over the next two hours resulting in two squid. Trolled a variety of deep divers between north mole and hall bank for nil. Fished hall bank for skippy and managed to land some 40cm gardies which were fat. Never seem the, so fat.

Out to the windmills for 10 or so sand whiting over an hour and a half. Not too many big ones.

Over to stragglers and I had a quick swim on a lump for crays whilst the guys fished. Managed three crays in 5 mins before a trawl for herring. Could see the, but not interested.

Next to Mewstone which resulted in one herring after a few laps.

Skipped to Carnac for zip though a fuel top up before Pig Trough bay. The guys fished and I chased some crays. Managed one size and a monster cuttlefish on a snare, Massive school of snook though they weren't interested.

Total for the day was two squid, four gardies, to whiting, a herring, four crays and a big cuttley. A wide variety though over 7 hours, we did the miles.

Curious us to know how everyone else found it? Plenty of wrasse around though the edibles were fussy.

Had a really good day and got my Mojo back with two Dhuies and two Baldies (one being a cracker around 4-5 kg) weather played ball which was good too. My boy jigged all day with plastics and jigs getting lots of hit and hook up but losing most. Anyone got any ideas on alleviating this? Bigger assists?

Keeping the pressure on

Mon, 2016-02-22 15:13

Keeping the pressure on hooked fish is the best way to stop fish from dropping the hooks. When you are learning and smaller, it's harder to do that.
I suggest go away from the typical short hard jigging rods and use a lighter longer and softer rod for juniors. The extra flex in the rod tip keeps the pressure on the hooks and is more forgiving.

Pretty ordinary at Kalbarri

Trolled near the river for a while, dirty weedy water, nothing around. Took off to Baldface, had a fair size(15kg) Cobia alongside, didn't want to kill it as they have all been full of roe lately, and we are getting one every time we go out. It solved the problem by throwing the hook at the 20th attempt to get a lip gaff in. Boated Rankins, fair pinky, small odds and ends. My wife caught everything, on bait, and got buried by something as well, I jigged all day for total of the biggest grinner -56cm I have ever seen, and a foul hooked redthroat. Bait balls at Baldface, but only blue sardines being harassed by a few tiny YFTs and sharks.

Pelagics have been very poor here this year, a few early January, virtually nothing since.

Launched at Port kennedy

headed out at first light. Fished the 5 fathom bank. Found 2 blackarse nursery's then pulled up a nice 40 cm version. A few nice hits but didnt boat any other keepers. Had one bloke on the boat on a monster of some description until an inexperienced deckie decided he would drop the anchor so we could fush that spot only for the fish to wrap him around the rope and escape.
