yep. Pretty pissed. So I wil put this out just to dispel any bad juju and rumours about dominators 'rolling over'.
Looks like we hit something coming back through the bay the other week. Wife didn't notice it until I put it back on the trailer, thankfully it wasn't to big and didnt take on water.
Sooooo, it's getting fixed with a few extras done as well.
and silver fox, I WILL bite. Evil boats? Why is that? Because forums on the net say so. What experience have you had with them ? I've had four boats in my time. Monos and cats. Guess what it comes down to the numptie driving it. I have run MarSAr's looking for all types of vessels. Well branded ally plates, Australian and import glass boats, yes including Leisurecats, particularly the one that 'rolled over' in exmouth gulf and washed up over at South Africa.
Morale of the story - you can take any vessel and identify instances where that brand has 'rolled', capsized, whatever. Guess what, unless through structural failure, it is down to the dickhead in charge of the wheel.
now, I shall return to buying some bling for the expected arrival of my boat.
mate , I have just bought a small cat ( Mako Cat Ali) and first time out I tried to drive it like my old Southwind, rapidly learnt that it's an entirely new kettle of fish ( pardon the pun).
i could see where a noob might get into strife prior to learning the way to drive one of these, but it is sure worth the ride and the wonderful stability!!
at the moment ( only 5 trips into the process) the #1 thing I would say to someone transitioning to a twin hull is that trim is super crucial and important to getting the best out of your cat.
#2... Forget everything you think you know about skippering a boat and be willing to take advice.
" I know about boats" won't cut it.
Just my 2 c worth, as I have noticed a lot of " cat bashing" going on in the forums.
Hey muppet I purchased a Markham dominator and we have had it in stupid conditions getting caught out wide and have never felt unease very capable boat if drivin correctly to conditions, great layout and would recommend them to anyone.
+2 as Muppet knows a mate of mine has one and I've been out in all sorts of conditons good-bad, speed-slow - never looked or felt like rolling. Trim and knowing how to drive is important on all boats.
If fact we were once offshore when we discovered the right hull was filled with water (through no fault of the hull and from an issue that could happen on any brand boat) - we went 10 km back into a calm bay to check it out and couldn't at that time see any issue with the hull (there wasn't one ) and then did the rest of the 30k back to the ramp - no issue at all in fact it rode through the bay chop beautifully with the extra weight. If they were prone to rolling you'd think it would do so with one hull full.
I have no issue with heading 70km off shore in my mates boat.
plenty of crap on forums about many good boats - for instance Google "cruisecraft" & "sinks" better not buy a cruisecraft the transoms just fall off
My father's friend had 8m roll over in Shark bay a few years ago nearly killed my Dad!
Both the skipper and people on board were in the water for nearly 3 hours. The weather conditions were moderate SW and the vessel had brotched on a turn at a low speed!
Both the Skipper and crew were dumbfounded the way it turned turtle.
The vessel was abandoned for a couple of days coming to rest upside down in the shallows smashing the superstructure off.
Lives were nearly lost, thousands of dollars of gear on the bottom of the bay with all agreeing never to ride in a dominator again!!

One thing for sure
of all the sea rescues I've done, I've rarely come accross someone that says that they stuffed up, always the vessels fault

Locals at shark bay said
Locals at shark bay said that boat rolled over with a large oad on the top of canopy but wasn't there so can only comment on what locals said.
Markhams are a popular boat used by water police over east so can't be too bad.

'Cat bashers' are always good
'Cat bashers' are always good for a laugh - just like four wheel driving, most times it comes down to the nut behind the wheel.
