hydraulic steering issues

Hi all
I just bought a second hand boat.
its a 6m ali with 140 yamiha 2 stroke. It has hydraulic steering fitted. The steering seems to be very hard and not at all what i would expect from hydraulic steering.
Has any one come across this problem or have any ideas of what i could try to loosen it up.
cheers

disconect the ram from the
disconect the ram from the motor so you can stand it up wright...try and get as much wd40 in around the shaft as possibke whilst turning left to right untill it frees up then wipe clean and hammer it with grease and do any grease nipples whikst your at it....grease does dry out especially if the boats stored in the element and uncovered...hope this helps

Checks
As what Jayden suggests, disconnect ram from motor, check that motor turns easily if not then grease it and free it up. Then check if its the ram or where it passes through the motor brackets , if the latter extend the shaft as far as it will go and clean it off with crc or wd40 then wind the shaft back in, clean off residue , extend shaft and clean again with spray, repeat until it is free and easy to turn.
