Ideas on lures for flatty/Bream ???

ok so having been up to Ascot this morning, this time I struck out badly... even costing me one of my presous hand made Soft Plastics (thanks to hooked on plastics for his skills at making them)..... SO I was wondering on way home. Driving down Tonken I was going through what lures I have for what occasion.

SX 487 Ecogear... kinda small for flattys an very very light

Skinny pop JR 1/8 oz Not even sure what to use this thing on as its insanly light for my 2-4 KG rod.

38 SubDog 0/8 oz too small an cant seem to cast it very far at all....(Bream lure)

Savage gear 38F deep Diver Been using for bream, but all it seems to catch is blowies an 1 40CM Bream..... (Have a feeling that Bream was  an act of god lol)

So... If anyone has any Advice I wanan go shopping today at Oceanside... Need a flatty lure or 2, an if anyone knows if a better Bream one, feel free....

(no bitching about fishing industry form me (I promise)....crosses fingers behind his back.....:p

Wouldn't be complaining

Been fishing almost every weekend for bream using lures for the last few years and yet to crack 40cms on a hardbody from shore.

To fully commit to bream fishing with lures from shore is a fairly expensive exercise from my experience. The equation doesn't make sense but I love it. Expensive lures + 4 lb mainline + 2-3 lb leaders + casting into snaggy territories. I'm getting immune to losing lures now cos I enjoy buying them:) also my rod that I use is a 1-2 kg 7ft rod with quality 4 lb braid that casts most tiny lures without much problems.

bream tend to hold up in different areas and you need different lures that swim at different depths. So it's not that they sold you a wrong lure, but you used a lure at a not suitable location. I find most of my bream lures catch flatties, just wind them in a little quicker. But some mornings when I'm targeting flatties, I look for water that's about 1 - 1.5 m deep and use larger deep divers up to 8 cms to target them.

Caught bream on all brands of lures, from atomics to zipbaits.

Yer going up to point walter

Sat, 2015-02-28 13:03

Yer going up to point walter on the sandbar for flattys in the Morning, and possibly round corner from raffles at canning bridge.

I was thinking praps it wa my line. I dont know what it is sadly. He put this black braid on, an im using 8lb leader flurocarbon.. Praps ill get new line for a start. As it seems to break realy easy an ive noticed the black come off on my fingers.

Edit i think that is part of my problem too. I wind in using the deep diver at a slow rate an i can feel it vibrating... Then occasionally give the rod a flick. Then wind slowly again... Been watching every vid i can find on fishing shows :)

So for flattys you wind in much faster aye ?... Taching myself lure fihing, while fun, is frustrating :)

The dye in braid doesn't

Sat, 2015-02-28 13:02

The dye in braid doesn't usually last very long. Having the dye coming out fast is pretty normal for a new line & is not a sign of poor quality.

Lure wise Ecogear SX40, Atomic Hardz Shad 40 & 50, StrikePro Pygmy & Cranka Crank will account for plenty of bream & flatties. The SX40 is the most expensive at around $18 from most shops, the others are all in the $12-$16 range.

There's a number of things

Sat, 2015-02-28 13:54

There's a number of things that could be limiting your casting, line is just one of them. Could also be effected the rod your using, the lay of line on the reel, the joining knot your using, rod guides or your casting technique.
