Injurys or storys of heading out in rough weather
This should make for a good topic ,
Now i have been out in rough weather in a boat 3+ meter swell but i have never been out where the skipper (hard dude) punched through each wave without backing off until while up in Karraha.
Now it wasnt that rough but we were going airborne strait into the face of on coming waves. I was fully shitting!!!
Each time we hit the oncoming wave it was like doing 10 rounds with mike tyson!!! Hurt like all hell!!!!
Infact no joke my nuts were slapping the seat and as soon as the nut ache went away then BANG!!!! again!! My poor nuts!!! I recong i fracturd a few vertebres in my neck! This guy was a hard ass!!!
He only slowed down when the live well bent the beams in the floor! Thank goodness for my nuts!
Another time was steep point! Got real rough while in the tinny and we hit the face of a wave, i landed face down on a eskie biting my lip and hurting my knees and hands/ wrist and my mate mat smashed his knees against the ally seat!
Whats storys have you all had?

A few years back now I had
A few years back now I had arranged a fishing trip with my younger brother for a Saturday morning.
The boat was a 21ft Chivers Seamaster sports hard top.
Saturday morning comes around 0500 hrs and what you think that’s right a no show.
Gave him a ring only to have his wife answer and copped a mouthful from her for ringing that hour of the morning. Anyway he turns up about half an hour late.
You guessed it been out on the Rum half the night and probable should have stayed home. I guess that why she was so talkative and polite on the phone as well.Anyway it turned out to be a very average day with only two good fish on board. The wind started blowing up and we had a good 20Nm the head in and you could see he was really suffering buy this time of the day around 1400hrs.
I started to head back with the South Wester blowing and a medium swell. Bang crash Bang crash. Time and time again.By this time he was struggling to even keep his head up, he was just rat sh#t that’s the only way I can describe it.
He leans forward from his seat and rests his head on his forearm and then onto the dash.A few more bang and crashes and then an extra loud bang with a F#*# coming from the port side seat.
As the boat came down and then up again his head was still on its way down and came to rest on the consol missing his forearm completely. Mind you it didn’t rest there for long he was “OUT “folded up under is seat on the floor.
He is still keen to have a day out fishing but never has had a hard night the night before again.
Garry.
Its a bit late to head home early.

Clean out cold
As a younger man I did a bit of deckieing and the skipper was a hoon. One day we hit really big seas at pace and I shot clean through the cabin and knocked myself out cold...

Struck a sand bar once at
Struck a sand bar once at speed in the Coorong (when it had water in it) when I was younger. Came to a very quick halt and slammed into the dash. No major injuries just sore with a bit of bruising..
Only other incident was retrieving at Wirrina Resort in SA a while ago on a very high tide and large swell. Ramp is side on to the swell which was coming stright over the ineffective breakwall. Had all sorts of problems with the waves washing the boat off the trailer every time we got it half way up. Step father ended up with two broken ribs when he got trapped between the boat and trailer. eventually got the boat in somehow (had to run out a sand anchor back out into the bay to hold the back of the boat in position and all sorts). Was a bastard of a ramp at the time given the conditions now has a marina there.

Seen a guy on a charter named JAWS a few years back have a bad landing! He was sea sick bigtime and fell asleep in the seat that runs down the middle of the back deck. We hit a wave side on, and he flew thru the air, sliced his head up on a checker plate engine room hatch. He then tryed to get up..and i dove onto him and said"stay down mate, you have a bit of a cut on your head" He didnt have a clue what had happeenned to him!
I love rough weather on charters..more room on the deck for me!

This is not a fishing experience but I thought some of you
might get a chuckle out of it. Many years ago when I was young and stupid (I was 15 at the time) I used to row surf boats for North Curl Culr surf club in Sydney.
One day there was a massive swell built up by a cyclone up north and the waves rounding Curly point were well over 15 foot.
Despite our protests, our sweep decided that we should still have our training session and suggested it would be a good experience for us to tackle really big waves.
Before we headed out he sat us down to give us some advice on what to do if there was a chance that the surfboat was about to get smashed by a big wave.
"Stay in the boat. Don't jump out of the boat. You will be much safer in the boat"
So with that we headed out, somehow managing to pull our way through the masses of whitewater and over some monster waves. We even managed to catch a 10 foot plus wave and were begiining to think that this was pretty cool.
However, on our next row out to the point we ended up in "never never land" caught out in that area where you know you are not going to make it over a masive wave and that it is going to smash right down on top of you.
So what does the sweep say, "Get out the boat" "Jump, jump".
Well he goes and the three other rowers followed suit, but I was caught up in the bow and couldn't get free before the wave came pounding down on the boat.
Luckily it hit the other end, but I still got smashed by a flying oar and covered by the breaking wave.
I managed to hang on as the boat was flung sideways and carried to the beach, constantly thinking it was going to overturn and trying to duck swinging oars.
I was hit a few times and dunked a few times, but the worst thing was that I lost my speedos.
With a big crowd on the beach turning up to watch the "clubby" idiots get smashed I was left in a real quandry.
Luckily there was a small bailinbg bucket in the boat and I managed to cover myself up before racing up the beach and into the surf club changing rooms.

Tailormarc I hate to
say this but I think your mate driving the boat was a bit of a dickhead , I for one wouldn't knowingly put my crew through that sort of flogging on purpose , was he trying to prove something or what .
Just one more cast , honest !!!
