Jig Rod

I know it all comes down to personal preference but i am chasing a few dieas on Jig rods to look at.

The rod will be matched to stella 5000.

i have the stella on a 7ft trevela at the moment and was looking at getting a rod thats around the 6ft or a bit shorter. The rod will be used mainly for demersals with a few sambo thrown in every now and then.

any advice or ideas would be great.

cheers

Jigging Outfit Options

Tue, 2012-09-04 14:28

Gday Jayce,

Depending on your price range, there a few options that we would recommend to anyone for jigging and demersal fishing in the SW Corner.

The Maria Jig Rod PE 2-4 is a great rod, and well and truly up to the fight, including Sambos and Kings. The 2-4 rod is rated for jigs 60-150g, and they also do a PE2-5 which is rated at 80-200g Jigs. Very Light, and Very strong, perfectly matched with a Stella 5000.

Another Option is the Hearty Rise JigForce JS-S58/4. This rod is rated PE1.5-3, and can handle jigs up to 120gm. This rod is outstanding for light jigging, and demersal fishing, however has the guts to stand up to bigger fish including Sambos. Tested by a few local lads down here, and they have proven to be a great quality rod.

A Slightly Cheaper Option, while the quality remains, is the FinNor Offshore Jig Spin 30lb. A 6'' Rod rated to 30lb. Still has all fuji components, and a very comfortable fore-grip. Great option for a great price.

Please PM us if you would like to see any photos, or want prices on any of the options above.

Cheers,

Zac@DunsboroughOutdoorSportz

The jigforces are nice rods.

Tue, 2012-09-04 14:38

The jigforces are nice rods. I've had my OH one buckled over on a shark at an angle that would make you cringe and it went rather well. They fold quick, but have a lot of strength. Southcity104 has hooked up to at least one 30kg sambo on one and was rather impressed with it during the fight. The only down side with them is that you cant really jig over 150g effectively with them, while some stiffer PE2-4 rods would allow you to go up to 200g perhaps. That being said, there are a few jigs the sambos like in <150g if you're jigging in 50m or less (possibly the 90's but depends on the day, but not really a sambo agg rod....)

I have the Daiwa Combi Jerk 64 which I reckon would match up pretty well with a 5000 Shimano. Looking at around $300 for the rod.

Waves Mare Nostrum Shorty

Wed, 2012-09-05 08:27

The new Shorty's from Waves are proving to be a hit on the market so far. Hence why Ryan and I now run our Stella 5000SW on them. If using 30lb id pair it upto the 20lb Shorty. Its got a slightly lighter tip which makes it easier to jig demersal jigs, Yet plenty of power in the lower section to turn big fish. This Rod is surprisingly light compered to other rods on the market. We also stock the 30lb version too.

We can do the 20lb Shorty for a Special price of $379 for Fishwrecked members. Feel free to swing past and check them out.

Cheers

Definately one for someone with rubber arms..........Synit  Kaha 50.  A few impressive clips on youtube, one landing a 25-30kg kingfish, well worth a look.
