Jurien Bay

Recently on the last long weekend i went with family and friends to jurien bay. I dragged the boat up and was only able to launch once. I went out 20km. and looked around and around and around and around and was unable to find much reef out deep. after much frustration and telling all my crew not to worry we find some ground soon, i gave up and went in. we boated some nice table fish but i was after the famous Jurien Bay Dhu fish. On the way in i noticed some  likely looking ground holding some very large fish. first drift Dhuie, second drift Dhuie, third drift Dhuie and fourth Dhuie. Not bad  for 30mins work and all in 12mtrs of water. There was four in the boat and i couldnt of scripted it any better all landing a dhuie. in shallow water these things pull hard and and the one i had ran about 6 times. Also managed a 53cm KG

but the whole annoying thing is i spent about 5 hours looking in 40-50mtrs and could not find much. Is there any reef ??? Can anyone tell me...when all along the spot i fished was only 15min from the boat ramp.

That's a great KG and a couple of very nice Dhuies. Jurien is a bit of an overlooked fishing destination.

i honestly drove around for 5 hours and was only able to locate one lump which was pretty clear 40-35.  i have a pretty good chart plotter and i did work 50-40 but mabe i was too picky in the ground to fish. You get a boat full of freinds and i guess you get the pressure of putting the boys on a good spot. but i dont give up easy and ill look more ...mabe i drove in between all the reefs and was unlucky.. but anyway why drive 20km when i pulled most of the fish 2km out..must of been lucky i bet. My deccies had never caught dhuie and i couldnt wipe the smiles.Cool

i was out there on the weekend.

We went south west about 10 miole out to some good ground, didnt get too much to start with except some thumper sambos, which were eating anything we dropped.

Also some badlies came up and small dhus.

Moved out to 20 mile southwest into the 40-50m range, flat coral, snapper, black ass, badlies.

Then moved into the 70;s (i found a wicked spot, which is going to remoain very secret) :) for the next trip, but lets just say 2 of us fishing, fish every drop.

But Sambo everywhere in the 20-50 m ranges, lost count howmany.

Going to Jurian early Jan

Sun, 2009-12-27 21:44

Hello,

If you have any GPS locations for Jurian, don't hesitate to pass them on as I will be trying my luck in early Jan.  :)

Incidentally, fishing out of Hillarys today, kept being smashed by Sambos, 60lb trace, 80lb braid.  Any suggestions?  Other than learn to fish!  In mitigationthey they kept running to the reef, but couldn't hold them.

Rich
